In the beginning of spring term, I dropped one of my classes and added a Spanish 101 class online. The class registered me and I'm on the roster. Yesterday I went to my Spanish class and the professor told me that I could not take her class and that I shouldn't be there because the registration should have closed. So I left the class and went to the registration desk and he verified for me that yes you are registered and not on any wait list. What should I do? I really want to take this class and it's still on my scheudle. The room isn't even full; there are 30 spots and there are only 27 students registered for the class. I am really ****ed off and worried; now I only have 2 classes; a huge 8 credit class and a biology class so if I don't have something else I'm going to be extremely bored.

Bring the printed copy of your schedule of registered classes. When she sees it in writing, she’ll back off. If you’re registered for the class, sit in your seat and stay in the class.

Or, you could go to her office during office hours before the next class and show her your printed official registration for this semester. This way, you won’t have to worry about it for the next class. You could even email her and explain the situation.

Depending on the teacher this may not work. Last quarter I had an English class and the class was not full (i.e. not every seat was taken). Someone I know added that class during the drop/add period. She would not let him in claiming the class was full. He talked to her 2 times in a matter of 3 days and no dice. He went above her head and went to the head of her dept. and got an override to be allowed in the class and still her would not let him in. In the end he just dropped the class until another quarter.

Never take a class which the professor does not want to have you in, unless you don’t care about your grades… I agree with the above posters that I would talk to the professor again, but then I would back off.

Is there another class you could take instead?

But she let a person who was waitlisted in the class already so that’s really frusterating. I’m going to go to her boss on Monday and I sent her an e-mail.

Is there a rule about first day attendance being required? I know that a few classes here at Macalester have that.

we don’t have such a rule at my school. Our drop/add is the first 3 days of school. So you are at the mercy of whether the teacher wants to let you in or not.

But I’m registered; it’s not like I’m dropping or adding. At my school it’s after the first week the drop and add comes into play; not before.
