Welcome Events 2010!

so apparently my friend went to her ucsb orientation, and they have the same there, like being accepted for who you are, etc. although i can’t imagine all that being true…

Your friend is probably telling the truth. Because I heard that they do the same thing at UC Riverside as well, from many of my friends. A very similar (stand up if you…) and a discussion afterwards. I didn’t particularly enjoy that kind of stuff, but I thought the icebreakers, cheers, and meeting other people was pretty fun

oh no no, it is not that i didn’t believe her, i meant that i would think people in ucsb, known for being a huge party school, would be at least a bit descriiminating in terms of physical appearances/ what not…i’m sure that is true of every college, but more so at party schools.

Well, unattractive people can party too.

Get used to the concept of inclusion especially if you’re in the residence halls. Your RAs are trained to make the hall as inclusive as they possibly can, and most of them wholeheartedly feel that inclusion is the root to fostering an accepting community. All your events will be inclusive, and you’ll be urged to open your minds and practice more inclusive language and behavior.

Get the idea? You’re gonna see a lot of the aforementioned hoopla. And it’s not always a bad thing.

I know, I know. And I’m all for making friends with my dormmates! I just don’t like the idea of being forced to do so. But of course, I’ll go along with it. That’s part of college. :)
