Are a lot of people doing the welcome program at the start of the semester? Would you guys recommend doing it or is it a waste of money?

We went to a First-Year Sendoff last week and the host (a BC junior) highly recommended the Welcome Program as a great way to meet people; he encouraged all the freshmen to attend. Since some of the events occur over Labor Day weekend (before classes begin), it's a pretty mellow time and great for socializing.

Is that the program where there are a variety of activities for freshmen the first week? If so, D did do that and enjoyed it, but I think by the end (I think the last activity was going to Six Flags), she felt settled and decided not to participate. It is really great to have a "plan" those first few days and I think the Welcome Program addresses that, in that you just use those activities to meet your future best friends. Go Eagles!!

screw that, i'm not giving them even more money

Dear ML1290 : Not shilling for the BC Coffers here, but the freshman first week program provides a great mixer environment to meet and greet people during the first week of school which is the hardest part of the transition - family has gone back "home" and your new "home" is a harsh reality. For the $100 fee, stay involved, active and engaged, you will get more from the experience of college.

Dear radyland : If you are worried about the $100 compared to the $48,000 annual tuition and fees, you are getting started on the wrong foot. Come three years from now, you will be entering senior year and you will want to be talking about freshman year memories. Think of it this way : if BC charged $100 more, you would never notice it. Your call however.
