"Welcome to HMC! and an invitation" Email

I was just checking my email, and I noticed that I finally received an email from Harvey Mudd regarding my acceptance. Besides the expected "Welcome to our community", it also contained an invitation to join a gathering in San Diego " for current students, parents, alumni, and friends of the college".

Has anyone else received this email yet (and can confirm its authenticity, though it looks official enough)? If you have, what are your thoughts on the event they are talking about?

I can’t confirm that specific event is real (though I’m sure it is) but Harvey Mudd does have small get togethers hosted by current students throughout SoCal for incoming freshmen. I don’t know how big the San Diego ones are but generally about 5-10 frosh, a couple of upperclassmen, and an alum or two show up. There’s no harm in not going, but if you want some inside info before you show up on campus it could be useful.

Ah, so this is a geographically targeted type of thing?

^ Yes. In the summertime, there are events like this all over the place – wherever they can get a student’s family to host one. We attended one last summer and found it very helpful and informative. It’s not a marketing session; no Mudd representatives are there at all. It’s a chance for froshlings and their families to meet other Mudders and Mudd families.

I didn’t get one haha. Then again, San Diego is two hours away from me.

I doubt there will be any in Palm Springs but I’m sure later they’ll announce more in the Claremont/LA area.

we should do an online gathering and chat

^ lol lame.

^
hey! that was my ingenious scheme to take over the world.

I live in the LA area, and I went to one in Pasadena this past summer. They sent me a postcard sometime in the summer, announcing 4 different Southern CA gatherings in 4 different places. As geek_mom said, the location depends on who volunteers to host. Besides admitted students weekend, though, I don’t know about any gatherings before the summer.

I the Seattle area, there were two different gatherings. One was after the RD decisions went out to give acceptees the chance to meet people and learn more about the school before making their decision. Then in Summer, there was a get together for incoming students. Both were worthwhile.
