Do you have a class rank? I think you definitely have a shot, but it'll be tough.

nope my school doesnt rank. on that basis will you revise your opinion? my graduating class is the most competitive in my schools entire history...wow. lol

Well, you definitely aren't a shoe in, but you definitely have a good shot.

My class was the most competitive in my school's history too, i assure you--it'll only hurt you.

EDI CGS and you have a shot. ( are you a jr or sr now?)

senior bump

ok then EDII CGS.

i have no clue what cgs is. i am not gonna lie. lol

You'll get into BU. I know way too many people who have lower scores AND gpa who got in. However, good luck with teh financial aid.

He's not a definite. I didn't get in last year and I had better stats.

Define better.
Because after seeing a bum with a 2.97 GPA, (Weighted? UW? Not sure) 1210 /1600SAT, non-legacy, non-athlete, non-URM, getting in BU (not GS), I've lost faith in BU competitiveness. My school sends a dozen kids to BU each year, half are dim-wits. I myself applied to BU and got in, and I did all my application a day before it was due (including all the essays) and did it in one period, it was journalism. With an admission rate of 57% for regular and 30% for transfer, please forgive me for the my disilluionment with BU's admission competitiveness.

Red - why are you bashing on BU? I know that Chestnut Hill U doesn't like us and all but if you're not here and not involved with admissions at all, what makes you an expert? This is supposed to be a positive forum for people to get information as unbiased as possible rather than a spotlight for you to crap on our school.

Why do you have such a vendetta against BU?

I don't hate BU, where did I say that BU wasn't a good school? No where. I just believe that BU is not a competitive school to get in (undergrad), but the Grad is competitive as anything out there. Half of the dim-wit I talked about ended up dropping out of BU after a while anyway (grade-deflation hurts their egos) leaving only the toughest scholars around. Furthermore, most my statements are support by data, I didn't pull these out of my bum.

P.S.
No one here is an expert (except the college reps that haunt this place like ghost). It's a forum opens to all point of view. I didn't make unfounded claims on BU, so how is that biase?

Ratings and guidebooks do not illustrate the school that is Boston University. We are a large private research university. We should be judged against our peers when it comes to statistics - i.e. GW, UPenn, Syracuse, UWisconsin, UCLA, et all. You can't compare a school like Harvard that is one school, one vision, one reputation, to a school like BU that has more than 5 different colleges within, not allowing for a single BU reputation. BU School of Management is top 30 Undergrad business school, School of Communications is top 10 in the nation. Students getting into these programs are top notch.

Sure people can be not as competitive as others and still scrape by but in general admissions these days is becoming more and more individualized as technology frees up admissions professionals to evaluate rather than collate and organize. 45,000 applications is a lot of paper to sort.

So please, let's leave the bashing behind and try to be sensitive to those people that have been defered or rejected, especially as we get closer to the decisions time of year.

-James

Red, you asked me to define better. 10th in my class, 1320 SAT v700/m620. 630 writing sat/710 sat 2 literature/650 math ic. most rigorous courseload. I didn't get into CAS and am trying to transfer.

Your stats should have gotten you in BU, I think you could have gotten in BC for that matter (I'm not going to deny the true). One of the guidance counselor must have really hated you for some reason. Good luck transferring, however, I think you should apply to BC instead (the last part is biase).

BU is much more similar to where he goes now. I think it would be a better fit.

There is no such thing as a SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN type person. Every application is different. Every reader is different. Everyone's application needs to be unique, strong, and cohesive. BU admissions readers are looking for people that demonstrate well in the few pages they have, that they can offer the BU community that which we need - diverse, intellectual, hardworking students to contribute to the BU experience.

nal let agree to disagree. You and I have difference experiences, and so different view points. I don't believe in the "extras" making a substantial difference in college application (unless as a tie-breaker). College application is cold hard data for me. You can throw a hundred examples proving me otherwise, and I can throw a hundred (if not thousand back). I won't scrutinize your statement to the letters because, as you say, none of us are experts. I've been around admission officers long enough to not believe in the "subjective" factors being the main element in admission.

P.S. WIth the exception of the Teens Club (admission rate in the teens), most schools are usually predictable with their admission (High emphasis on GPA and SAT scores). Teens Club can afford to choose the "extra" because they have so many who are qualified academically. You can find a few mavericks that prove my previous statement wrong, but they are the exception not the rule.
