Wellesley 2021 Chances

Hi, guys, I know it’s probably a bit early to be asking this, but I like to plan ahead. I was wondering if you guys could chance me for Wellesley 2021! Thanks in advance!

Summer Activities: In the past: Duke TIP (America and the World: Challenges and Opportunities), Federal Service Language Academy (for six weeks, gained two high school credits), National Security Language Initiative for Youth (scholarship to study Arabic in Rabat, Morocco for seven weeks last summer. For this summer, I’ve applied to quite a few programs: a week long internship in DC with the National Council on US-Arab Relations, a Peace and Conflict Symposium at UT Austin (this is a paid program though not a scholarship), and a scholarship from Qatar Foundation International to study Arabic at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy.
Teacher Recommendations: Planning on getting one rec from one of my teachers who honestly is more like family than my teacher, I know she will write a strong one (she wrote me one that helped me get into NSLI-Y), she knows me really well and can articulate my best qualities. Also getting one from another who is my IB HOA teacher. We get along very well, I put a lot of effort into her class, and she has mentored me a lot and really helped me grow as a person while in the IB program. Also, will probably get an extra rec from my RD while I was in Morocco. She and I got along very well as well and she mentored/advised me a lot while we were in Morocco, she will be able to articulate well how much I gained from my experiences abroad.
Counselor Rec: I get along very well with my counselors so hopefully it will be good.

Reflection
Strengths: My international experience + I speak Arabic, French, and English. I also generally focus the majority of my extracurriculars in one area (the Middle East/Arab World/Arabic) so hopefully that will show them how passionate I am about the Middle East and studying MESAS. Also, I am in the IB program which is very prestigious and rigorous program (lol look it up on Urban Dictionary, the definitions for IB are hilarious). I have taken the maximum amount of AP courses possible and always took the most difficult classes offered. I took two APs in freshman year, which no one else did at my school. I took AP Chem in 10th grade without taking Chem 1 and I did the IB program. I am also taking online AP Art History next year.
Weaknesses: Hopefully, I will do well on my SATs and ACT (although I’m not very confident about my SAT score as I did not put enough time into preparing for it), but as of right now my weakness is my test scores and possibly also my Bs in math (math and I do not get along and we never will so honestly I can’t complain about a B, also I have never taken pre cal or calculus and while it is an IB class, IB Math Studies SL is probably the easiest math course you’ll ever take, so that might reflect negatively on me).

Also, my main problem is debating whether or not to apply ED. I honestly love Wellesley and can picture myself there. Never before have I felt this way about a college, but I am in love with Wellesley. My only problem is that I’m not a generally decisive person and maybe I love it today but in a month I might be in love with another school. I’m worried that I will apply ED to Wellesley and then decide I don’t want to go there, but I’m also afraid that if I apply regular decision I won’t get in, Any advice?

From what you’ve written here, you have a great shot at Wellesley (however, it’s difficult to say without any SAT 1/ACT scores). Don’t apply ED unless you’re 100% committed and know for sure you want to attend. I went through periods during my senior year where I would absolutely fall in love with one school, then after a few months the idea of it became boring again and I would move on to another school. If you’re indecisive like me, I would recommend you apply EA somewhere. You would still have a great shot at Wellesley in the RD round if you get ACT 32/33+ or SAT 2100+. Best of luck!

@thetsaria Thank you! I am hoping I will get a good score on my SAT/ACT and I am already signed up to take the SAT again so if it does not go well then I have another chance. That’s exactly how I am, I just wish Wellesley had an earlier EA, because waiting that long make me very anxious and ill probably just be a hot mess. And also, their quasi-EA system with the likely, probably, and unlikely thing kind of freaks me out because it is so vague.

Apply to Wellesley Early Evaluation! It’s basically Wellesley’s EA, but instead of saying you’re accepted, they say it’s likely you’ll be admitted. Possible means you’re deferred into the RD applicant pool and will be reevaluated with them. Unlikely means rejected. Every person who has ever gotten a likely has been admitted unless they’ve flunked out of high school, gotten arrested, etc. And last time I checked 20% of all possibles were accepted in March. I wouldn’t apply ED just in case you get cold feet (I applied EA for the exact same reason even though I was in love with Wellesley), but I think you’re doing very well!

@wolfiesowl Thank you, I definitely will do that!
