@pilotb757 Hello, I’m white and have worse grades than your daughter and got in, nice to meet you. How do you know other student’s exact test scores? Wellesley is a diverse and wonderful school, and just because your daughter got rejected doesn’t make it a “SCUM” of a school. No one can be too overqualified for Wellesley, so maybe your daughter just wasn’t a good fit.
@pilotb757 I also just want you to be aware that saying your daughter may have better test scores than a few young women of color, but implying that those women should never be worth the same as your daughter in the eyes of colleges just because of a number (when you have no clue of their circumstances or their extracurriculars) is racist.
@pilotb757 Congratulations to your daughter! She must be really proud and she has amazing stats. However, you have to understand how hard it is for someone of color to replicate those stats. I grew up low-income and worked really hard for what I have. My father worked long nights throughout my childhood and I had to basically teach myself. My parents know minimal English and could not help me with homework. I never asked anyone for help–I learned to help myself. I’m proud of what I have achieved. When I applied to schools, my parents did not know a single one besides the popular Harvard and Yale. I only have legacy in the streets of Mexico and Guatemala which I’m proud of. I’m a first generation American and it’s not something to be ashamed of. Your daughter is very fortunate to have a mother who knows about colleges and cares for her. It’s not that my parents did not care for me, it’s quite the opposite. They just couldn’t guide through my school career. But they always cheered me on. From these experiences, I have become independent. I had to educate myself on how to apply to college. I am the first from my school to be accepted to Wellesley. I will defend Wellesley in the regards that they do not “screw” white people. There are a lot more factors than race. But in response to your comment, only 13% of the school is Hispanic while the majority of the students are white. 9% of students are black. So, I can see how Wellesley would like to see more diversity as any school should. That does not mean your daughter or any other qualified student should be rejected. It just means that each school should diversify their students. And I am more than just my SAT score and my gpa. And while yes, I am Hispanic and maybe that helped me during my decision, I am also the first to go to college. I’m the first to even finish high school for my family. Congratulations again to your daughter. You should be proud. I too got rejected from amazing schools such as Colgate and Swarthmore. Sometimes you’re just not right for colleges. You can have a 1600 and a 5.0 GPA and still get rejected. It happens! All the luck to you and your daughter during this stressful and exciting time!
I just want to say to all the students of color who read/hear comments like this, you deserve to be here. You deserve to have been accepted where you got accepted, you deserve every accolade you’ve gotten, and you deserve every bit of praise. We made it through a lot to be where we are today, and I am proud of us. We are more than qualified, and so we succeed. I understand that the college process sucks, and it hurts to not be admitted somewhere that you love (believe me, being rejected from Pomona was a hard pill to swallow.) I’ll paraphrase what @chicana17 said: We are more than just an SAT score and a GPA. Everything that you put in your application goes into their decision. And when they reach that decision, be proud of where you got, and how much it took for you to get there.
Hi @chicana17 . I am a part of the Wellesley Class of 2022 and am white. I am so glad that I will be attending college alongside such a well-spoken, thoughtful, hard-working, and determined person such as yourself. Thanks for sticking up for women of color, and I am so sorry that it was necessary to do so on this forum. <333

@ChalkPastel thank you and congratulations!! I’m so excited to go to Wellesley! I can’t wait to meet everyone! Thank you for being so sweet!
I’m very pleasantly surprised at how people on this thread are responding to @pilotb757 's message. It’s very easy to take a comment like that at face value and direct all of your ire towards it, but it’s important to understand that this admissions process is also incredibly stressful on parents, and they’re also prone to making attribution errors. @magtf1 puts it very well.
Congratulations on the good news, I have little doubt that this entering class has powerful women that will strive to change their communities for the better.
They deleted the comment. Good choice.
But yes ^^^ some of these comments have been the most gracious replies I’ve ever seen to someone who said something hateful.
I am so excited to be a part of the class of 2022 with you guys <3
Does anyone know what time the financial aid will come out?
@chicana17 I don’t know, I’ve been constantly stalking the portal with my fingers crossed. I know its in the letters they sent out yesterday, but I think it might show up on the portal as another “status update”
Accepted with a likely early evaluation. 4.62 our of 5.0 GPA, rank 3 out of a graduating class of around 1400 with a 1580 SAT, 36 ACT, and 5s on 7 AP exams. I was also involved in Academic Decathlon, winning 3rd at state, and had officer positions in student council and volunteer tutoring organizations. I also interned at a local university’s neuroscience lab for the past two years.
My recommendations were probably decent, and I was proud of my essays. I really emphasized the community and female solidarity aspect of Wellesley and I think that’s what made them see me as a good fit.
I’m visiting Wellesley and staying overnight in about two weeks and I’m super excited! Proud to be a prospective member of the class of 2022.
@collegefeelsbad it’s up! I just checked it out!
@chicana17 I got so excited but it just has more forms to fill in before they can give me the grand total lol
I hope your FA is good news!!!
Financial aid notifications are here!
why am I more nervous about the financial aid than the actual decision?
@chicana if you see this can you PM me. I tried to but I couldn’t (technically challenged). I wanted to ask regarding financial aid.
Wellesley states that all appeals “must be made in writing to Student Financial Services”. That does include emails right? I live abroad and mailing a letter would take ages. Someone please reply!
Does Wellesley send packages to accepted students? If so, has anyone from Cali gotten it yet?
@classyvintage722 I actually took myself off of it Friday night since I was accepted to my #1 (Barnard). still waiting on my tufts decision, but if I had not gotten into Barnard or tufts I definitely would’ve stayed on. best of luck to you!
hi i forgot to post when i got my decision, i was waitlisted w a possible EE, not terribly disappointed as i got into my top 2 this wekk! congrats to all who were accepted, good luck to the other waitlisted, and to all who got rejected, keep your head up and remember you will do great things at whatever school you end up at!
