Hey Y’all. I am a political science major who has been accepted into Wellesley College and Howard university to study political science and I am having a really tough time trying to choose between them. In terms of Wellesley, the pros are that I LOVE the environment on campus and I already have friends who attend. I felt so welcome and at home on my visit and everyone from teachers to friends says they totally see me as a Wellesley girl. Its also generally a very highly ranked college in terms of academics and a very dedicated and esteemed alumni network. The only con is that its quite expensive and Im not sure how much aid ill get. I intend to go to Law school so getting myself into undergrad debt is not ideal. For Howard, the pros are location in DC, they gave me a full scholarship (tuition+room and board), and they also have a strong alumni network. Cons are that the Howard administration is notoriously terrible and I dont think I would enjoy the environment that much. Im also not sure how much Howard will challenge me as a student. Any words of wisdom from the CC Community?
My D got her financial aid package from Wellesley already. Did you log in lately? It might be there.
No I applied after the Feb. 15 deadline so it will be a while before i get it
@bisonorboston Howard’s administration is good to some people. I say Howard based on what you said … rankings don’t really matter unless you’re looking to be a tenured professor. But outside of that it usually don’t matter. And lets not forget Howard is highly respected and ranked as well. Also the black cultural experience at Howard I KNOW is better than Wellesley … no competition there.
Getting into Wellesley is an accomplishment, and its reputation will matter. Do you have any idea when you’ll hear from financial aid?
All of my stuff is in so I expect in a few weeks. I don’t expect much but I plan on appealing for more if I can. My parents income is high on paper but we are a main source of income for our family abroad. I am hoping to explain this to the committee and hopefully get some lenience.
To be honest, as long as u got a good finaid package with wellesley, it’s the clear choice. My sister went to Howard and I’m at Wellesley, and the differences between individual attention and preparation are stark.
