I'm a current high school senior trying to decide between Wellesley and Middlebury.

I like both campuses a lot, though if the academics were completely equal, I would absolutely choose Wellesley. My concern is that the creative writing scene at Wellesley is not as good (both academically and outside of class). I love creative writing, and I'm maybe 50% sure I want to major in English/creative writing. I know Middlebury is known for its strong creative writing... also, when I visited campus I went to a poetry slam, and the students' poetry was terrific. I feel pretty confident about the literary scene there. But what about Wellesley? I haven't heard much.

Basically my choices are:
-Wellesley, which I love, but I'm not sure if it's great in my potential major
or
-Middlebury, which I really like, and which definitely excels in my potential major

Have you looked at the course catalog and faculty profiles for both institutions? One criticism I have heard about creative writing at WC is that a lot of the classes are mandatory credit/ non (Wellesley’s version of pass/ fail).

Also, plans/ majors/ life goals change… I know a former English major who has gone the premed/ bio route, and a former econ major who is now a peace and justice studies major.

I’m a Middlebury Alum and I LOVED my time there. I think there is no better school out there. But it seems like you really like Wellesley. It’s a beautiful school and I can’t imagine you’d come away feeling that you’d gotten a bad education there if you were to choose it over Midd. If you were my child, I’d push you toward the school at which you feel the best fit. It sounds like that’s Wellesley. Midd does have a GREAT writing program, but I suspect Wellesley’s is pretty good too.
