WELLESLEY vs. U OF M

I am having so much trouble deciding over u of m ann arbor, nyu, and wellesley. as i live in michigan, my parents want me to go to u of m. people else where think it's a great school, but i don't really know how great it is since it's right next to me and everyday i think of it as "just a school". i know u of m has lots and lots of great programs, but nyu also has a pretty good business school stern. all in all, i want to go to wellesley for the experience. the mit cross-registration program sounds pretty interesting to me, and it'll be a great way to meet intelligent guys, as wellesley girls are "supposed" to be better than mit girls to date.

reading about the interaction is truely fascinating; an all girls school cooperating with mit -- with 58% boys and 26% asian out of 4132 undergrad student body, making that approximately more than 500 asian guys hahaha okay maybe i'm being shallow about this.

i am truely tormented. i am so bummed that i didnt get into hyp since that would make this decision much easier, or rather kind of harder, but then i would'v been really happy, but anyhow, i want a good academic program, and i think u of m is pretty good but wellesley is good too and i just don't know who's better: LIBERAL ARTS or NATIONAL

postundergrad... what are my chances of getting into good grad school like stanford or harvard if i went to wellesley or u of m?

depends on what type of grad school you want and you can go anywhere from any of those schools.

What you do while you're there is 2432^2x more important.

wellesley definitely, but if the money is a big deal, UofM.

You should go to Michigan and spend your summers in NY, Florence or Paris with the money you save.

Wellesley is a great school, but you may want to check further about the social scene, and the MIT relationship if this is important to you as you expressed. At the end of the day, it was between Wellesley and another college for my daughter, and after an overnight at Wellesley she chose the other one. It was a tough decision for her, though, and Wellesley is a great school.

This was our perception:

1) We were told that in recent years MIT changed their course scheduling, in a way that made it significantly more difficult from a logistical standpoint for Wellesley students to take courses at MIT.

2) Wellesley is not located at Boston/ Cambridge; it is in a suburb. They have a bus that runs to MIT, but it takes 30-40 minutes each way, and of course it doesn't run every minute. So if you're going to use it that takes a chunk of time out of your day just going back and forth.

3) For social life, the Wellesley girls have to go to the boys, it's not the other way around. My daughter didn't like this notion from a social aspect.

4) From what my daughter observed, the students there were not having a lot of fun socially, or academically for that matter. It is a very tough school.

This is just one limited perception, from a few days of observance, so we could be wrong about each of these particulars. I would just suggest that you investigate them further to your own satisfaction.

haha.
