Wells Fargo

Hi, and thanks in advance for any responses!
I'm an incoming freshman for fall and I still haven't opened a bank account yet, and I was wondering if Wells Fargo is really the way to go? I know that they are UF's official partner, but I wanted to know if there are really any perks to being a UF student and having an account at Wells Fargo? I still haven't gone to preview yet(because I just got back from vacation), and I know that Wells Fargo sets up shop during preview, and I was wondering if there are any perks to opening an account during preview, or if I should just open one at my local branch?

Wells Fargo ATMs are all over campus, so that’s a major perk. I had WF before even deciding on UF, and I feel like it’s super convenient.

I have both Chase (I’ve had it for a little over a year) and WF (opened at Preview) and started during the summer, so although I’m a freshman, I’ve lived on campus already. Having the ATMs on campus is a perk. However, when you deposit checks, there’s a long delay before you can actually use your money; which has never happened to me with Chase.

Have you tried with ATMs off campus? I have a Wells Fargo account that I opened at Preview, and I’ve gotten immediate access to every check I’ve deposited.

To the OP: Wells Fargo waives their normal fees if you tie your account to your Gator 1 card (doesn’t stop you from using your debit card normally, which is what I think most people do). You can get a checking and savings account with online and mobile banking for free. There are also Wells Fargo branches practically everywhere. In my hometown it feels like there is one of practically every street corner, and as electricchapel and heybails said, there are lots of Wells Fargo ATMs on campus.

I’ve been having weird check deposit delays with WF too lately. Didn’t happen before. Now if I need the money right away I cash my check and then deposit the cash.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

propwash and heybails when you opened your accounts at preview did you feel like the experience was rushed or did you feel that you had plenty of time to talk to the WF representatives and fully understand everything?

My mom actually did most of the legwork while I was getting my ID, all I really did was go over things quickly and sign the paperwork. I didn’t feel particularly rushed though, and the woman that set my account up was wonderful. I had opened a few bank accounts before though, so the process wasn’t really anything new.

She also called me a couple times in the weeks that followed to see if everything had gotten set up properly and ask if I had any more questions, which really impressed me.

No, I mean…it’s a bank account. It’s not like you’re getting a loan. :D
