I can't even begin to say that I compare with some of the amazing numbers prospective students put up. I'm average on the ACT, my college GPA is just under 3.9, and, well, I've got a G.E.D. The latter being the first thing I eluded to on my Common Application essay.

I have decided (possibly against my better judgement) to apply to UChicago based on everything that I am. Sure, I love the idea of working with some of the greatest young minds in the country. Yeah, there are some fantastic scholars in the political science and public policy realm that'd I'd love to learn from. What drives my focus though originates from somewhere else...I want to know I can do it. I want to know that I can overcome my teenage years. I want to know that all the hard work, extracurricular activities, and sheer resolve to atone actually mean something. To be completely honest, no decision on my application is necessary for this. Simply applying has satisfied any lingering doubts I had about my capabilities of succeeding at the highest levels.

I have applied to NU as well as other schools. My advice: come what will, yes or no, learning that transcends the classroom will occur, so long as you're open to it.

Best of luck all.
