I've applied to these schools and I just want to know if they are spread out enough as far as reaches, matches and safeties. (Oh, and if you could tell me which is which that'd be nice too :))

I find it quite fitting to post an update on this thread I’ve just dug up, since I had felt that hmom was quite harsh in her response…I got into the final 3 of that top 5.

It’s a simple fact that being African American makes a college look at an application differently and certainly wasn’t meant to be offensive. For the last 15 years I’ve worked with AA kids on college applications and many with lower stats than your have gotten into very top schools.

I don’t think it was very offensive. Maybe worded a little harsh. But i’ve heard multiple times “you’re asian. its going to be a lot harder to get in” and I dont get offended one bit.

I love how pure truth is often greeted with the word harsh on CC. I would have said the same had I missed that the OP was a legacy or athlete. The game is simply a different one:

Michele Hernandez, nationally known private college admissions consultant located in Vermont. Author of the book A is Admissions: The Insider’s Guide to Getting into the Ivy League and Other Top Colleges and former admissions officer at Dartmouth College

“40 percent of every Ivy League school is filled up with special cases: athletes, minorities, low-income, legacies or development cases. They’re tagged, and schools lower the admissions standards a lot for those kids. So you got to know how to use those tags to your advantage. If you’re a legacy and you apply early to the school, you’ve got a 50 percent better chance of getting in.

This woman hmom seems like a pretty miserable and unsatisfied person in her personal life, grumpy and bi**chy too, who is compensating for her insecurities and failures in banking industry by venting it here. If you look at her past threads she seemed to have offended many people by initially stirring up the debate by making attention-catching or offensive remark and then backing off if someone digs deep with reason supported by details and examples.

Just noticed this… but how come in the original thread you are quoted to saying “If you’re a URM, you’re in the running.” But now you deny that you knew that at all?

Hi Polo, I mean ccquestion! Your only posts are on threads where I am since I had to tell you the truth about your chances and to ask you to stop spreading misinformation, what a coincidence!

Here’s the thing, most people post because they want honest answers. Some are offended when what they get isn’t what they believe or want to hear. What any poster writes is one person’s opinion. Take it or leave it.

i do not know what you mean by your first statement… like most of your posts it does not make sense. I have seen people like you in real-life who are old and grumpy and try to assuage their feelings of insecurities by preaching to college going crowd. They either will not understand or will ignore your subtle bitter remarks because they have a life unlike you. But that does not change the fact that you are a helicopter mom who does not know sh**t, or else you will have better things to do.
