Why do people confuse them so often? Or they think it is a female college in Massachussetts? Have you had similar experiences?

I get that all the time. When I told one of my friends that I was going to Wesleyan, she asked, "Wait, isn't that an all-girls school?" Yeah, Wesleyan's an all-girls school, and my operation is next week, lol.

Or, perhaps it's because so many OWU alum insist on making the comparison:

that link didnt work... what did it reference?

aghhh. yep. i live in georiga. i did not even know there was an all girls school named wesleyan in this state until i started telling people i was applying there... ?

I couldn't help but be reminded of a thread from a couple of years ago wherein a couple of OWU alum chimed in on the infamous John Leo column bashing Wesleyan in USNews. Starting at #33 the posts become progressively more vitriolic:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/wesleyan-university/24055-us-news-column-severely-bashes-wesleyan-3.html

There's also a history of tinkering with the Wesleyan University entry at Wikpedia on the part of OWU alum.

when did you graduate from wes?

honestly the only similarity between the two schools is the fact that we both have "wesleyan university" in the name. having read some of those posts in the thread linked to above, I'm struck by the fact that somehow certain members of the OWU community seem to think that they're competing with us in the court of public opinion. no offense, but I mean, we really have nothing in common. I didn't even know an Ohio Wesleyan University existed before reading that thread.

there is nothing odd about confusing them. people in general are not really as familiar with small liberal arts colleges as they are with state flagship or big research schools. i bet people often confuse them with another good wesleyan (in illinois).
