Hello out there! I am very interested in Wesleyan, and I was wondering if there were any alumni out there who might have some tips on what makes you stand out on applications or any other advice on applying. Also if anyone knows any other schools on the East Coast that are kind of like Wesleyan, that would be great. Thanks!

Yea, one of the best kept secrets about Wesleyan is that it is an academic powerhouse in the basic sciences, particularly for its size; it’s number one on the Washington Monthly annual rankings for research among LACs, but that’s only part of the story; the lion’s share of that money comes from the prestigious National Science Foundation, the National Cancer Institute and other government agencies doing basic research.

Naturally, Wesleyan is always on the look out for kids who might be attracted to STEM majors since the graduate departments are small and professors are always in need of undergraduates to help do research. So, get those Math scores up!

Looks like she discovered the Wes forum. zoe826 if you are still around, take a look at Brown. People who like Wes often like Brown and it has the cooperative culture you are looking for, mentioned in another post.

Apply Early Decision - more than 50% of the incoming class was admitted ED. The school we found to be most similar (but not on the East Coast) is Oberlin. You may want to look at Vassar and Bard as well.
