Hi, my daughter has acceptances from Wesleyan and BC. BC also offers her a Presidential scholarship that underwrites the tuition for 4 years + offers her research possibilities & internships. She is interested in studying neurosciences and I have few questions in my head:
- Which of the two universities is better per se, and specifically for neurosciences?
- Does anyone know more about Gabelli Presidential scholarship and its benefits?
- Is Wesleyan a better bet than BC + scholarship?
BC only offers 10-12 Gabelli’s per year. It’s an awesome deal. Get first dibs on everything.
Even if Wesleyan (CT?) offers a few more Neuro courses, BC tuition-free is a no-brainer.
- W right now, altho BC has recently upgraded its Neuro program, with a full major.

- Read all about it on the first link below. The second link will give you an idea on what Scholars do after BC.
- Absolutely no way. But there is a cultural difference in size and location (Boston is an awesome college community), and if money is no object.

I love Wes and respect how great it is.
But if you are one of the 15 Gabelli scholars that’s unbelievable. congrats. it is an incredibly rare and wonderful opportunity. The benefits are almost too long to list. Aside from the complete scholarship (BC offers no merit. This award is it). And you obviously nailed the interviews etc. You know the level of competition.
Aside for BC being incredible on it’s own. The special events, research and unique opportunities that will be available to you are hard to overestimate.
Head to head, it would be a choice based on fit and major. Unless you wanted a degree form Carroll in finance or nursing where there isn’t the alternative at Wes.
As Gabelli scholar it’s a very straightforward choice unless you just didn’t like the school. But not sure why one would go through the process if they weren’t interested.
It is usually the program designed to lure a student to BC away HPYSM.
