How would you characterize the differences (academic and social) between these two schools?

brown has more academic resources and is more socially diverse

Wesleyan has better dorms and more of a campus "bubble".

Also, Wesleyan has a better Film department. Probably a better Astronomy Dept., too. Other than PLME, I'm not sure at what Brown is better. :/

This website is perfect for any researcher studying "selection bias". There is much good information on the website, but one must be careful to stay away from the 60% nonsense that is spewed around on this board. Academically Brown is superior, Brown has superior resources, superior students, superior professors, superior connections; HOWEVER! They are both good schools.

slick -
Believe it or not, I'm a complete agnostic when it comes to Wesleyan's academic superiority to Brown. I'd like to be convinced that it's not true. Really.

lol ^^^^^^^

Brown this Brown that..Brown for everything......

Ok, I'd say Brown probably does have a marginally stronger student body, but not enough to make that the entire basis of your decision. I say this as someone who struggled a lot with which to apply early last year...in the end, the fact that I felt more comfortable at Wes outweighted the fact that Brown is an Ivy, etc. (Of course, I ended up deciding to major in Film, so it was the right decision anyway, acedemically, but that is neither here nor there).

So, some things I considered:

I think the size differance is big: Brown is twice the size of Wes. I felt a lot more confortable at Wes. Also, when I visited I liked the vibe of the student body at Wes better...more quirky...at Brown it seemed like more people were more "normal Northeastern prep school," depsite its reputation as being really quirky (but that could have been the people I was visiting with). I actually got more of an intellectual vibe at Wes, which I have continued to experiance as a student here (but again, it might exist at Brown too).

I also think Wes housing is better, at least for Freshmen.

Anway, I chose Wes and have not regretted it for an instant: this place is AMAZING. But it would be best if you could visit, because when you are looking at schools that are pretty comperable (and they are), I personally think your personal reaction to the schools is what matters.
