^I don't think you'd go wrong with either school (although that career track seems more Vandy to me, but I don't know much about about V so I can't say for sure). So, what are you looking for in a college?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I loved both schools and applied to them. I only got into Wesleyan from those two and Cornell. But I will be heading to Cornell as my major is CS.

I second limitedvocab. You can't go wrong with either. You might face a stronger Greek scene at Vandy, while it is kind of quirky at Wes. You might want to start thread on those schools' forums. I believe that will be also helpful.

Good luck!

Both are great schools, but I think most people would prefer Vanderbilt's social scene.

limitedvocab: i am looking for a gregarious, outgoing college, not too much boozer necessarily (much more a martini than hard Jack man), beautiful, leafy campus, safe, pretty, crime-free, nice surronding neighbourhood, kids for the most part that are generally well-rounded, do intramurals, dress well, somewhat preppy, etc.

also that "oasis" campus feel, where the college feels like an independent community of its own, whatcha call it a "bubble (i guess that is the pejorative discriptor)" as opposed to just another set of buildings within the surrounding community.

but also doesn't feel like a big school where i just get lost and feel like a number. i do want a strong sense of community.

I haven't visited Wesleyan, but I do know that Vanderbilt definitely has the above qualities.

Are you aware that Wesleyan has the reputation of being a counter-cultural haven of political activists and protesters? Vandy's pretty much the opposite of that. What you described above sounds like Vandy to me.

Yeah - if you're looking for "somewhat preppy", go to Vandy.

I think you should go to Vandy. I've been following your threads for almost six weeks now and they seem to have grown increasingly jumpy over a variety of issues. You seem to be the sort of person who has a particular idea of what they want and nothing short of it will make you happy. I think a lot of what Wesleyan is about would be lost on you simply because you are Canadian; you have no use for our idosyncratic, American, political, social and cultural struggles. I think you find us exotic. I've never been to Vandy, but I think a larger school would give the time you deserve to find and make friends who share your views or at least afford you the time to develop some more substantial views. In other words, you souond like someone who is not particularly interested in participating in change.

johnwesley, i would like to send you a PM: you raised some insightful points. however, that feature is not currently enabled for you, and i prefer to discuss it in a less public medium than this. thanks. you can PM me as to response to this. I would like to keep this thread as relevant as possible to others facing the same conditions, ceteris paribus.

Go to Vandy, but you'll need to learn to like bourbon for football tailgates.

sf606508 - I've just enabled PM. hope to hear from you. :)

bourbon, haha.

well, better than beer (I am allergic to hops).

and I am asian by the way.

vandy is very overrated imo
