West Chester University or Saint Joes?

Hi guys, I dont know which one to pick!!! I be transferring as a Math major from a county college and I been accepted to both of thes schools. I heard good things about both schools. Whats your opinion? Immaculata University and Rowan College are both on the table. I like Saint Joes but its double the price than many of these schools. What do you guys think?

BUMP anyone help please im desperate

If there is any way you can afford SJU, then do it, hands down! Immaculata is completely unorganized, and forget about finding a job after you obtain your degree. Rowan has their act together but they don’t have the credibility of SJU.

Since you seem to be torn and you said you’ve heard good things about both schools, what I would do is look at the stats of the amount of time it takes to get a job after graduating.

Congrats on your acceptances!

How do i find those stats?

Immaculata University also has a new Math/Data Science degree, what do you guys think about that?

The career development office should be able to provide data in what grads do and how many are employed after graduation etc.

If you want to work in Philly, St joes can be a good degree for networking. But WCU is one of the better and harder to get admitted to state Us so I would think long and hard about spending a lot of extra money on SJU.

I would choose either of them over immaculata

It depends what you want to do with the math major. WCU is a big education school, so if you want math ed, that’s the place for you. If you are going the route of data science, then SJU wins. Consider how long each school has had the major you want as well. You don’t want to attend a school in which the major is new - another minus for Immaculata.

hmmm ok thanks for the replies, any other tips would be appreciated!

WCU is quite a good state school although I don’t know anything about the math dept. Cute little town, continual upgrades to facilities. St. Joe’s is a nice school but not worth twice the money (imho) unless the math dept. is really strong. Immaculata is fine but overall is a step down from St. Joe’s, I think. No knowledge of Rowan except that it’s in NJ so sorry, no thoughts on that one.

Have you visited both?

I have visited both, Immaculata University is by far the nicest, WCU is very bland

I am also a kinda shy guy, not really shy, just a little. Would a school like Immaculata with 4000 kids be better or WCU with 14,000 kids?

You thought WCU was bland? It’s a great little college town. What did you think of St Joes? Did you like the more city location ?

St joes was nice, it had a lot more personality to it!

Do rankings really matter or no??

YES! I didn’t think so in the past, until I saw 1) to where my son’s classmates were attending, from several private and public schools, 2) internships/partnerships between each college and company, and 3) grad school and/or job placement upon graduation. You can do your own homework, but there is a distinct difference between the higher ranked and lower ranked schools. I also found the lower ranked did more bait-and-switch with the parents to entice them to push their kids toward their colleges. Also, a huge difference between public and private colleges; private gave much more personal attention than public, both during admissions and after acceptance. The only one to break this rule was Drexel - private but acts like public, with non-existent professors. Haven’t figured out the draw there yet, except that you are more likely to get your major if it’s a competitive one.
