West coast colleges for East coast students

Pepperdine does give merit scholarships, don’t recall how much for what stats but you can look it up. For me its a little isolated, but a beautiful campus.

The CUs are much more college than they are given credit for since they are in the UC shadows as well. You might look into CSULong Beach, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (up the coast and a touch inland from UCSB but same general area) etc. Since you mentioned UCSB I’m assuming you were thinking of beaches but Chico is good too (not a beach but a beautiful campus, friendly, etc) And they are cheaper, but I don’t know what financial aid you get there.

@twoinanddone When you think of California, you think of cheese and potatoes? Haha. And I was trying to make a point by saying states I’ve never heard of. Don’t take things too literal.

@collegevetting Yeah my EC’s are probably the weakest part of my application. Or maybe that’s my awards…
Anyways, CSULB might be a little below what I’m looking for in academics. Also, there are a lot of Hispanic and Asians, more than there are whites. Not sure how I feel about that.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo looks alright, but I don’t think the name fits on a sweatshirt. That’s out.

@ThanksIKnow‌

If you were 1/4 native american, you would get free college, assuming you had the roll call number of your ancestor lol…

As for the shirt, It would probably read CPSLO, Cal Poly Slo, or some other derivatives.

For student population, Asians have a strong presence, particularly in UCI and SD where its 53% and 46% respectively.

This will be especially true with your major. There will be many non-white premed. Actually, there will be many non white people in any college you go to in socal.

Anyway…What is your list in order? You seem to have additional preferences.

@ninjex Do you want me to list my preferences in colleges based on priority? Or do you want me to list my top colleges?

Priorities (in order):

  1. Affordable
  2. Decent academics (75th percentile SAT scores are 1200/1800+)
  3. 5,000+ Undergraduates
  4. Located on the east coast (preferably near or below NY), in Texas or in California.
  5. Favorable Guy/Girl ratio (Guys are at most 52% of students (oddly specific))
  6. Party scene that’s not overwhelming, but still there
  7. Good looking girls

Top colleges (VERY rough draft):

  1. Loyola University Maryland
  2. University of Miami
  3. SUNY Binghamton
  4. University of Alabama
    5.SUNY Albany
  5. SUNY Geneseo
  6. Marist College
  7. NYU
  8. Syracuse University
  9. University of Pittsburgh

I haven’t visited any of these schools. These are all just based on what I’ve read. I understand that visiting a college is essential in making a decision.

CSULB is tough to get into AND when we visited, lots of ethnicities noted and it was a nice mix! If you don’t visit your future campuses, you won’t understand what people are talking about.

You do realize that if there are more guys, your chances of getting hot girls goes down right? It seems like you would rather look someone that is more like 45% male.

Also, it is important to see your ECs, it has a big impact on admissions

@AnnieBeats That’s why I said at most 52%. I would prefer 45% male, but I’m not going to rule out a college that is 52M/48F. I consider myself decent looking, so I think I can compete against the odds.

Here are my EC’s (don’t become overwhelmed):
Guitar (6 years)
Ukelele (2 years)
Keyboard (1 week)
Oboe (5 years – no longer play – street cred went down significantly)
Service Club member (kinda)
Foreign Language Honor Society
Soup Kitchen (almost 3 hours)
Poem published (s*it was tight)
I babysat once (very competitive)
I might volunteer at a hospital (we’ll see)
Intramural Baseball (3 years)
Travel Baseball (3 years)

Awards:
Astronomy student of the year

@aunt bea I live in New York, unless I’m seriously considering the school, I’m not flying out to California. But, would you say the ethnicities are overwhelming? I come from basically an all white school. I feel like I would become a minority and it would put me in a position I’ve never been in before. But, I do want at least one black friend. My street cred would totally sky rocket.

Lol You don’t actually plan on putting down 3 hours of soup kitchen right?

Cal Poly SLO sweatshirts just say Cal Poly, because it is Cal Poly. Cal Poly Pomona was a spin off of the original Cal Poly, so it is Cal Poly Pomona.

@AnnieBeats No, haha.

@Emmasmum It was just kind of a joke about Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I think the real reason I’m not interested is the 55M/45F ratio. Jesus, why am I so worried about this. Also on ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■, the Guys are rated an A, whereas the Girls are rated an A-. Gosh, I’m such a hedonist. I hate this.

I’m not even sure I want to go to California. Are the girls seriously that great? All these songs about them make me think they’re something special. In reality, I feel like they’re just going to be the same as any other girls near a beach.

To any girls reading this, this is all for speculation. Please don’t yell at me. I hate when people type in all caps.

I really don’t know what to advise you. You had better run the net price calculator with your family’s financial stats on the websites of the colleges you’re thinking about. You have the grades and scores to get into the kinds of schools you’re talking about, but you might not be able to afford them.

As for your hopes for hot girls, I honestly don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know which boggles my mind more, the fact that you think any school can be known for the relative attractiveness of the female students, the fact that you think the male/female ratio at a school will have anything to do with whether you personally hook up with anyone, the fact that this is important to you, or the fact that people on this thread are apparently taking you seriously and giving you advice about it. Oh wait, I know what boggles my mind the most: the fact that you and other posters here apparently think that songs, TV and movies accurately describe what California girls are like! Please, I’m begging you, use some of the brains you apparently have and figure out what life is actually about.

@dustypig Alright well you’re clearly not very knowledgeable about this subject. Let me teach you a bit.

Say I end up at a Tech school, because I’m a dustypig. Also, I only care about beating World of Warcraft and I’m not concerned about whether I’m going to spend the next 4 years of my life at a sausage fest. 2/3 of the population are males. Say I’m not that good looking. I’m either paying prostitutes, lowering my standards, or start swinging from the other side of the plate.

I apologize. That was uncalled for. Well, personally I think it’s important to consider this when choosing a college, but it’s definitely not a deciding factor. And this may come off as unknowledgeable, but are there any songs called “Dakota girls”? Or what about “Idaho girls”? And yes, guy/girl ratio definitely does affect hook ups. A college that has 3 guys for every 7 girls, turns a guy into a hot commodity. Also, colleges are known for their good looking girls. Why do you think ASU has so many students? It’s in ARIZONA for god’s sake. And if you look a page back, I have my college priorities in a list, of which, good looking girls are at the bottom.

What boggles my mind the most is: I spend a lot more time on CC justifying myself, than getting useful information.

Alright this post has clearly been taken the wrong way – my fault. My main priority is price. If you could recommend colleges known for generous financial aid, that would be appreciated.

Okay, this thread is derailing rather quickly… Lets try to save it before its locked ^^;

To be honest, I’m not skilled enough to create a list of schools based on the specific criteria.

I recommend this though: <a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search</a>
It should give you a decent general list for further research.
