West House

Is it true that the floors 1 and 2 of West House have private bathrooms? I saw it on college niche but am unsure if that is a reliable source. If so, what if the room is a single? Still a private bathroom?

Thanks!

I didn’t live there but I’m pretty sure that’s not true, I think all commons houses have communal bathrooms. I’ve been in west and the layout seems to be just like the other houses, and if that was true it would probably be common knowledge because people in other houses would be jealous/mad about it. Also I think that the only people with singles are RA’s, or maybe if you have some weird medical issue or extenuating circumstance. You wouldn’t just be assigned a single if you’re normal.

i actually did get a single hahahahah @fdgjfg super pumped. thanks tho.

Did you get that info in the mail? If so when did you get it and where geographically do you live?

Almost positive that is not true. There are singles on Commons that have private bathrooms but those are reserved for people with disabilities. If no one with a disability claims them then usually an RA takes them. The floor plans for the houses are available online so you can check there to make sure.

Looking at the floor plans, I guess there are some houses with singles, mostly in North, Memorial, and West. North has the ones with the private baths. West has like 4 singles per floor, so a somewhat significant number. No private bathrooms though. I’m kind of surprised I never knew anyone with a single.

Where can you find the floor plans for West?

I lived in West House on floor 3, but there are no private bathrooms on any floor. We do have a decent number of singles though.

Floor plans can be found on the housing website. You can log into your account (My Biz) and there’ll be a tab on the left with floor plans. Someone posted it on the Class of 2020 Facebook page too.

Thanks for the info everyone! Much appreciated.

They’re also in the last post of this thread:

Do the closets in West house have actual doors? Are they hinged or are they sliders?( Do I need to buy a tension
rod and a shower curtain to cover the opening/). Is the second floor of west the floor you enter on? From the pictures it looks like west only has 3 floors? Are there any study rooms or lounges in West? The floor plans I have seen dont appear to show any. Are the balconies on the third floor accessible to people who live in the Dorm? Are they used alot? Thanks in advance.

@fdgjfg ,@Sophie1295 do you know the answer to the question posted above?

there is a pdf online with that kind of information on a table, a simple google search will answer that question

I don’t know what the inside of west house looks like. In all the other commons rooms I’ve been in though the closets don’t have doors. So if you want a door for it yeah you would probably need the curtain. Most people don’t use the curtain though, you can just see your clothes and it’s no big deal.

I don’t know the answers to the other questions because I didn’t live there. Look at the floor plan in the last post of the thread I posted and all that stuff should be pretty obvious from that.

Thank You @fdgjfg . I was just curious because the Welcome guide indicates West has a hinged door(similar to memorial and north ) but different from the new dorms. I was interested in the Balcony, because i am near the balcony on 3 and smoke allergic, and concerned about whether the Balcony is used for smoking. @sophie1295, did you live at West and do you have any insight?

My closet in West House had a door. It was a really nice closet with a mirror behind it, and REALLY big! Floor 3 has a nice balcony too.

Thanks @Sophie1295 . Was the balcony used for smoking( I hope not), or did people just use it to hang out and chat? Any additional insight you can give me about West? What floor did you live on? I know it is not as desired as the new houses, but was it a good experience? Are there any lounges in the building on the second floor? Thanks in advance

Well, some people did smoke there, but it really wasn’t all that bad. I lived on the girls’ floor (3). West House gets a lot of flak for being old, but I found the rooms and common areas really nice. It’s also a smaller house in terms of how many students live there, so it’s really easy to make friends. The second floor is the lobby floor so we do have a common sitting area. You’ll enjoy West House!

Thanks… Although I really wanted one of the newer buildings, I am sure West will be fine. Appreciate the info!
