candidate 2016-
Trust me, I am remaining humble & not getting my hopes up. But just like any other candidate, this is something we’ve all worked years on and now its just waiting by the mailbox everyday. The scariest part is that a lot of the candidates I went to the Summer Seminar with are posting about receiving their LOA’s and it’s very scary becuase I havent received an LOA. Just a nomination. This scares me becuase the slots are filling up!!! On the bright side, I received my Army ROTC Scholarship yesterday so I have a back up plan.

02 Hockeymom- You should definitely call and ask why your daughter has not received a letter regarding the medical exam. If she hasn’t, I would presume she is not at least 80% finished with her Application. As soon as I finished, I received a letter and it only took about 2 weeks to get another letter saying I was qualified becuase I had no waivers. A medical waiver can take FOREVER!!! Therefore, she needs to get it done asap. GOODLUCK!

Yes - in order to receive DoDMERB medical exam, the candidate file MUST have all GREEN check marks before USMA will send info to DODMERB. If a teacher stated they sent in rec response and the check is NOT green, then you should re-send by resubmitting their info. Also, once they have completed the rec, then they receive confirmation from USMA. One other advice, many teachers may not realize that the rec request email was in their “Junk” or “Spam” email folder.

Stay after the teachers – if one is not responsive find another.

It is very important to get the teacher recs done so DoDMERB can be scheduled.

There is another forum site that has a specific section on DODMERB. It also has participants who are directly involved in the process so you have people who know the current process and are very good at answering specific questions you may have. Then you don’t have people just guessing at the answer or providing info that is perhaps incorrect.

Just throwing this out there, because crossfit23 mentioned it, don’t forget about the Army ROTC Scholarship. Sure, its not USMA, but it pays for the college of your choice(pending acceptance and that they have army rotc), and you still become a commisioned officer at the end of your years as college. Its an amazing opportunity, take advantage of it. If you haven’t done so already, check that out for your daughter, 02hockeymom.

Also, 02hockeymom, you can do NOTHING without instruction and information from USMA concerning getting the medical process rolling. You cannot just log onto the website and create an account. If you don’t have a letter, that means they don’t even have your daughters name in the system. It isn’t so much that you need to be proactive, its moreso patient. Theres only so much you can do. However, get on her teacher and counselors case. They hold the opportunity for a $400,000 plus free education in their hands by procrastinating. Its time for you to step in and get your daughter a fighting chance and get your medical process going.

wetpoint2016 is right. and the rotc scholarship is much easier to obtain than am appointment.

& Time2- Your advice is very good. but just to reassure you 02hockeymom, everything I said about the DoDMERB process is true becuase I went through it myslef. and I’ve talked to many admissions officers at NASS, and other west point admissions information sessions.

Time2- I was not trying to offend you. I was just simply telling the mom that asked questions about the DoDMERB about what I have gone through. That being said, there is no reason for you to question my nominations. However, since you proceed to do so, I will explain. Different states/regions have different congressional boards that can hold their interviews at any time and award candidates with nominations at any time. My name is Deidra Stillwagoner, I am from Ga. District 01 and my congressman that nominated me is Jack Kingston. Many candidates actually have their nominations at this point in the application process, and if not, they should be attending congressional or senate interviews soon. My congressman made it a point to hurry and get the nominations in the system earlier than most, in order to increase the chances of his applicants obtaining an appointment. Anyway, here is a link to the Press Release regarding the many candidates that have already received their nominations in my area. Notice the Date at the top shows Oct. 27th becuase my congressman decided to do early interviews. Here is the link: [KINGSTON ANNOUNCES NOMINEES TO UNITED STATES SERVICE ACADEMIES | Congressman Jack Kingston - First District of Georgia](http://kingston.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=266489)

So there really is no real answer to your questioning my nomination but I hope this helps.

If you are a candidate for USMA, GOOD LUCK on your nomination process!

Thats awesome crossfit! I have a Service-related nomination; a JROTC nomination to be exact. However, my congressional and senatoral interviews aren’t intil the 16th and 19th of november… it sucks waiting, but my other nomination is locked in so I can still get an appointment.

Have you heard how difficult it is to get in if you are currently on Active Duty? I have already received my nomination, maxed cfa, have recommendations from several of my chain of command and have a 28 ACT. In high school I played football 4 years and soccer 2, both on varsity. I wasnt involved in any other clubs and had a poor gpa though

I received my appointment to USMA for the class of 2016 on October 12th (I think I was one of the first). I accepted it 2 weeks ago, hoping to see everyone there on R-day!

camedic, I would say that you have okay chances. Most Active Duty Candidates don’t make it straight into the academy, unless their high school transcripts and SAT/ACT are extremely favorable. What will most likely happen in your case is that you will be considered for West Point Prep School, UMAPPS for short; im sure that you’ve heard of it. I say this not to discourge you, camedic, however, with a poor gpa and no outstanding leadership positions, chances of making it into the academy will be minimal.Your best shot is UMAPPS.

I am so pumped up as I just received a call from my MOC that I have been officially been offered an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point! I am so grateful and look forward to joining the USMA Class of 2016!

Candidate2016 - I became a member of College Confidential JUST to be able to say “Congratulations” to you! My son is a candidate and has just received a nomination from one of our Senators, so we are waiting and praying for an appointment. Therefore I have an understanding of where you are right now and you have every right to be pumped and excited. I noticed that your comments on this board were intelligent, helpful and positive and I think that’s really great. So, once again, CONGRATULATIONS on your success!

katydid7,
Thank you very much!! Best of luck to your son and I hope we become classmates for the USMA Class of 2016!! If I can answer some questions, let me know.

hey, I have always had dreams of attending USMA. I decided last year in december of my senior year (very late i know) and couldn’t even be considered because the deadlines for nominations had already passed. Here I am now as a college freshman, on an army scholarship at Virginia Tech, a senior military college. I’ve been excelling at the school and have really established myself, but the thought of going to West Point keeps nagging at the back of my head. I’m not really sure what to do anymore. I love it here at Virginia Tech, but the thought of West Point is always at the back of my head. I guess what I am trying to ask is why West Point. More importantly why are YOU guys trying to get into West Point?

My son has applied and completed applications for all academies and is in nomination process. Congressional nomination interviews are first week of december.

My son attended Summer Leadership at both West Point and Naval Academy and would be honored to be nominated to any of the Academies. He has, however, been more actively contacted by West Point admissions and even received an LoA in September, so West Point would be his first choice if nominated . My question is whether he should continue to seek nominations for all academies or, given the WP LoA and being his frist choice, whether he should continue to seek nominations from all academies or just focus on West Point.
