FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE NO. 12-09

WEST POINT RANKED THIRD BY STATEUNIVERSITY.COM – Feb. 10, 2009

WEST POINT, N.Y. – On Monday StateUniversity.com released findings from its “Top 2000 Ranked Universities for Highest Overall School Score” with West Point finishing third overall, behind only Stanford and MIT.

The software to rank schools was engineered by the same team responsible for the Site Search Engine, JRank.org – currently one of the most popular site search tools on the Internet, the StateUniveristy.com release said.

According to StateUniversity.com, its ranking system is completely statistical and based on government sources. Government entities regularly survey education institutions in the United States and these institutions are required to complete the information objectively and accurately. Great pains are endured by the agencies responsible for the data collection to ensure both its accuracy and validity.

“We are very proud of the Top Tier education that West Point provides,” Dean of the Academic Board Brig. Gen. Patrick Finnegan said, “and are pleased that independent outside organizations continue to recognize and acknowledge the high level of achievement.”

The West Point information used in the StateUniversity.com rankings was gathered independently and was not supplied by the U.S. Military Academy. Certain West Point information was not entirely accurate, such as, enrollment, which is 4,400, not 1,244.
