West Point Record

I am setting a West Point record of sorts! Well, as I was told anyway. I am facing a MEB and am potentially a double turnback. I will have had the privilege of doing Beast 3 times should I return with the class of 2014. If anybody is familiar with the MEB process, advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is MEB?

Medical Evaluation Board.

The MEB determines whether a medical condition interferes significantly with the members ability to carry out the duties of his rank and rate.

Oh requiem, I am so sorry to hear this! I have been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. Prayers on your behalf!

requiem,

First of all, I hope you feel better quickly. Secondly, kudos to you for wanting this opportunity so badly that you would consider Beast a third time. Best of everything to you, including placement in the records book.

requiem,

I am really sorry to hear this. You really should speak with your TAC officer about this process.
My understanding is the MEB will review your medical record. They will decide if you can stay or if you should be separated. I believe if the decision is made to separate you then you will receive a medical discharge.
Being separated is more of a permanent thing than being a turnback.
You will have to reapply, complete the DODMERB exam again and possibly get a medical waiver for your condition that has caused your medical separation.
You should have this explained to you fully. Please ask.
Good Luck, I hope it all works out for you.

JAM4,
Thank you so much for your concern. As far as I am told, I will be on admin. leave until the board makes its decision, and should the decision be not in my favor, I will be medically discharged and be separated from west point. Right now, since my “condition” is not very serious at all, I am hoping that the MEB will find me fit for duty, but I am seeking legal counsel to be prepared to appear at and appeal at the formal hearing for the PEB at walter reed. And am applying to civilian colleges/ROTC, to have all my bases covered. Hopefully it turns out well, but if not, I’ll know I tried my best and will be content with whatever decision they give me.

Good for you, I wish you the very best.

“since my “condition” is not very serious at all”

Requiem - I am so sorry that things have worked out the way they have, but I am a little confused by your posts. You say that your condition is not serious, but you have been unable to complete Beast for 2 years in a row. I would imagine that that is serious from USMA’s perspective.

If you return next year will anything be different? (You don’t say if your current issue is related to the “nervous sytem” problem you had last year.) In addition, the bigger picture that West Point has to look at is whether you will be fit to be commissioned if you do graduate from West Point.

I wish you everything of the best for the future!

Ann,
Thanks for the reply. I PM’ed you :)
