This school is my one and only. I am probably one of the most dedicated people you know, and not a quitter. I have been researching, visiting everything about West Point since age 7. Three of my uncles went there, two out of the three graduated. Please let me know what you think my chances are. and I dont mind how brutally honest you want to be.

no chance pal

You can get by with the gpa. I've seen acceptances there with lower gpa's. The sat might pose a problem.

yeah im taking the new one in march, dan thanks for being honest at least

no problem i tell it like it is....stright up facts

Dan, maybe you should elaborate on why you think he has no chance?

Brendan, I think you do have a chance. If you explained that your school is one of the highly competitive schools in your area, then they will probably overlook it.

i live in ny i have seen a lot of kids apply to West Point and truely its the best of the best..........West point has one of the best academic programs in the world and well frankly to attend this instiutuion u do not need Harvard credentials but certainly top tier stats. He doe snot have these characterisitics and even though he attends a competitive high school it is not out of the ordinary....Maybe if he would have scored a 1400+ on the SAT the admission commision would think higher of the low GPA but as it stands it just doesnt look very promising

Overlook an SAT score 200 plus points below average and an under 3.0 GPA when their average is 3.7? Why? A kid from a competitive school might show a slightly lower GPA, but they are expected to have a higher SAT given the calibre of the school.

Sorry, I'd have to agree with Dan, these stats aren't even close and the op needs to set his sights on some realistic schools.

I don't think it's the "biggest reach of all time", but you've really got to step up your academics. Your extracurriculars and sports look great, but I would recommend that you start focusing as hard as you can on academics, especially on getting that SAT score up there, above 2100 would be great.

hey guys.. how about an 1100 SAT, 5.3 GPA, top 5% of class, vice president of tutoring service in an urban area and i was featured and interviewed for the miami herald(city newspaper) miami as in florida miami... varsity letters in swimming, badminton, water polo, bowling ( 2 letter for swimming and bowling, 3 letters for badminton, 1 letter for polo).. over 300 total community service hours, current vice president and soon to be president of debate, next yr will be secretary of NHS, also secretary for math club..
qualified for the state competition in FBLA and debate as well....

what are my chance for west point? thanks

only thing hurting u is the SAT...need a big spike

so its a no then?

no offense... no chance. (Talking to brendan)

if u can raise it there is as of now id say like 15%

brendan- your GPA and SAT scores are too low. i understand that west point is your dream school, but you are below their range. as far as you being incredibly dedicated, if you tell your senator or congressperson's interviewer for your nomination that, the first thing they will likely think is "not to academics apparantly." your EC's, however, are just what west point wants. in short, unless you are a nationally recognized athlete or can raise ur GPA above a 3.5 and ur SAT proportionally, you will almost definetly not be accepted. sorry to be harsh just trying to give you a fair evaluation.

Mystic: very good chances of your acceptance if you bump the SAT up 150 points (or whatever it might be with the new test). that said, the rest of your profile could POSSIBLY make up for the 1100 (basically, its on the EXTREME low end of "acceptable," not SO low as to eliminate you out of hand). retake the SAT and keep up the good work everywhere else.

ha ha ha mistic what kind of a **** school do u go to if u manage to pull a 5.3 GPA yet get horrible SAT scores....ur school must not be very academic at all

hmmm...and this coming from a person who can't spell 'mystic' correctly. 1100 is a solid score anyway.

"solid" the average is only like 50 points lower than his....I want to apply to West Point as well.....maybe you could get an "appointment" through a congressman?? Thats your best bet...just email one of em and tell em your interested (you do know each congressman has 2 appointments? or basically gets people in w/o having to apply...research it becuz i dont know much about it)

Im lucky i actually know two teachers from West Point who are married and they said they could get me in =)

If your school has some sort of JROTC program, you would definitely want to consider that, as well.

elcommando, no offense, but you clearly have no understanding of the process to be accepted to west point. you cant just fire off an email to a congresman and say "hey, appoint me to west point." congresspersons and senators have a certain number of people they can NOMINATE for west point, and out of those the west point admissions people accept whomever they choose. as far as getting nominated, it is substantially more complicated than you present. the only people who automatically get in are the vice president's appointees, and they are usually children of solidiers who won the medal of honor or died in combat.
