I heard that only a few A's are given out in L&S R44 (western civ), and the class has around 130 people. Is this rumor totally unfounded, or is that the class has a strict grade distribution?

Have not heard this. What was your source? Where did they get their info (heard it from friends, talked to a GSI, talked to a prof, experienced what you described)?

The information about this was total hearsay, my roommate's family friend went to Cal and she heard that only a few A's were given out. I have a hard time believing this, but I'm already sort of nervous about this class.

I also have a hard time believing that, and the class is hardcore.

No no no, DRab.

If you want "hardcore" Western Civ, you don't take fluffy L&S R44. You take History 4A, 4B, and 5.

DRab, you're in L&S R44 right?

Yes.

People are always competing about the difficulty of their classes.

I'm taking History 5... should I be worrying?

Well let's face it, "the easiest MCB class is probably harder than the most difficult humanities class."

No! History 5 is by far the best easy class at Cal and everyone should be required to take it!

You're such a history major.

Bump. So how difficult is it really?

Taking that course many years ago was one of the highlights of my time at Berkeley. It's a great course to take as a freshman. I highly recommend it. Great way to make friends, the readings I did were great, the lectures were interesting.
