I’m a community college student with a 4.0 average, and I’m planning on attending Western Governors University for a B.S. in Accounting. The reason for attending WGU is that it will allow me to work while I earn my degree, with little debt and no on campus housing expense. If I did this, would graduate schools accept my credits if I wanted to apply to a business school in order to earn a M.S. in Accounting? My goal is to become a CPA… Also, what is the reputation of Western Governors University? I’d just like to know whether or not it’s a decent school, I don’t care much about “ranking.”
WGU’s programs are rigorous; and yes, accepted by business schools for a master’s. You might not qualify for an top 30 type masters program-- but for a regional state university- you should be fine. BTW, WGU also has masters degree programs-- and many WGU grads continue on for the MS. WGU will challenge you and make you learn. It’s not for everyone, but it meets the needs of many non-traditional students.
Thanks! I don’t really care whether or not I will be accepted into a “prestigious,” graduate school. I just want to be able to become a CPA, and work for an Accounting firm-or start my own. Since it’s nontraditional, do a lot of employers question the reasoning for attending the school? I don’t want to meet the requirement for a BS in Accounting and have an employer question why I went to an online school.
Google WGU Gallup-Purdue Alumni report for info on how WGU graduates are doing…
