What percentile do you have to graduate in from Wharton to earn even interview request? Is it possible to get such requests purely based of Wharton's rep or are grades a huge factor in obtaining an IBanking job?

Wharton’s rep means that there will be recruiters, they will look at your resume seriously, and they will be interviewing a lot of students here. However, it does not guarantee you will get an interview in IBD if your grades (I would estimate 3.5 or above) or experience are not up to par.

Does this imply that 45% of the wharton kids have a gpa over 3.5?

I just made up the 3.5 figure for interview cutoff. From what I’ve seen, bulge brackets don’t generally hire below that level, but it’s very possible that I’m wrong and they will interview candidates with lower GPAs.

Fair enough. But I’ve read on the career service site that 45% of them goes into iBanking. Somehow, I doubt if a majority of them have 3.5 GPA or if they all ended up in boutique shops

Oh I see where you got that number from.

I heard the average GPA at Wharton is around a 3.3, but I still hold that you should shoot for at least a 3.5 for BB. For comparison, someone told me Goldman did not hire any single degree Wharton student this year with less than a 3.85 this year (although this was obviously a special year)

For 2008, I counted around 160 BB offers, which is around 35%. The other 10% would be boutiques.

Of course, a lot of students at Wharton also have very good connections…

Thank you AstonMartin, I value the informations you provided very highly. Now I finally have some benchmark to work with…

This year, if a student did a dual degree, how much lower do you think their GPA can be?

bump!!!
