Wharton and Upenn Myths

Hello,

I heard that Upenn is a party school, consist of snobs and your social life is determined by how much money you have. Also somewhere else it was written that Greek Life is the essence of social life.

I do like partying once a week(actually when it is final's week, I do not really like it) but I am not much of a drinker. A comment about school was telling that it is not socially acceptable to drink.

Is there a pressure to major in finance/accounting areas in Wharton? I want to major in entrepreneurship or marketing areas, so are these areas subverted?

Another thing is that I want to double major(psychology), but still manage to have a life after all. Would it be too overwhelming in Wharton?

Also how are the dorms like? Are they really terrible? How is the inside of dorms like? It seems to be impossible to find a picture online; so if you have one, can you please send it?

I know that these things can be just rumors, and I would appreciate if someone clarifies it for me.

Oh and also someone wrote that the administration sometimes acts as if it is only there to make people’s life harder. I do not really get what they mean by that. Can someone elaborate on it if they think the same way?

Going through the process and haven’t seen or heard anything that has us worried in any way. Besides, college is what you make it and you need to really connect with about a dozen people to really enjoy the experience. It’s not like you’re trying to have 10,000 best friends. So, unless you are very anti social and odd, you’ll probably meet enough people you clique with to have a great 4 years.

Social life/greek life is not wholly determined by how much money you have. There are certain frats, especially the off campus frats, that recruit new members who come from wealthy backgrounds, but the majority of greek organizations are uninterested in how wealthy your family is.

No one will really pressure you to drink. Plenty of people don’t drink and still attend parties.

Lots of wharton students concentrate in marketing and all of the other disciplines. It’s said that you can’t go wrong with Finance, but by all means concentrate in whatever you want. Everyone does :)

Dorm life is very fun freshman year and most of your first, and often lasting, friends will be those who live on your hall. There are some pretty good YouTube videos on each college house that give tours of rooms in each house. Just YouTube the college house now (“riepe upenn”
