wharton vs. not

I know I want to apply to UPenn-- I loved it when I visited. I think there's a pretty good chance that I want to do business upon graduating, but I'm not absolutely positive. I'd like to keep my options open. Also, I had a really shaky junior year, and my Wharton chances are probably pretty iffy.

So, a few questions:

Is it possible to transfer into Wharton from CAS?
Can you major in econ or finance from CAS?
Is it possible to compete with Wharton students for internships/jobs as a CAS student?
How well-rounded is a Wharton education? Are you in trouble if you change your mind about business?

I'll answer the first one:

"Is it possible to transfer into Wharton from CAS?"
** No problem, just fill out the official Wharton transfer form and have it notarized**

Economics is offered in the CAS and not in Wharton so yes you can major in that. You can still take business classes if your in the CAS/ liberal arts classes if your in Wharton. You will have no trouble competing for business jobs from either school; but if you are in the CAS you must ensure that the classes you take give you a solid quantitative background. You can supplement your business classes with liberal arts in Wharton, but you can't stop taking them if you change your mind unless you leave the school. You can also apply for a dual degree from both schools either before you enroll (Huntsman) or once you're there (any combination you like).

Just in case you missed quaker10's sarcasm, yes it's possible to transfer but it's extremely difficult. It seems like half the CAS class has a brilliant "secret plan" to transfer to Wharton because lots of folks have done the math and realize that Wharton is twice as hard to get into as CAS (1/2 the admit rate). They only take maybe 2 dozen internal transfer every year and they do it by ranking according to GPA. The cutoff is very high - something like 3.8+ out of 4.0.

You don't need to go to wharton to do business. Do some more research before embarking on an ill-conceived plan to use CAS as a backdoor to wharton. If you want Wh, go for Wh directly.

I did totally miss that sarcasm. I got really excited and started looking for the form. haha, I eventually figured it out.

I need to research more before I know if I really want Wharton. If I decide that I don't, then I'll apply to CAS, because I know that I like it a lot.

thanks for the help!
