Wharton

I'm considering apply to Wharton ED. While I believe I'm in the running academically (2320 and 3.98), I lack business-specific extracurriculars. My college counselor told me that the last student from our school accepted to Wharton sent a letter from a VP of Sun Microsystems that stated the VP would hire him there, on the spot. I don't have that letter.

However, I think my extracurriculars do demonstrate the leadership and tenacity that pay dividends in the business world. Moreover, over the summer, I very successfully managed a sailing camp, but -- again -- I wasn't interning at Sun.

So, my question is more general: Does a student applying to Wharton (undergraduate) without significant business experience stand a chance?

Yes.

10char

When I was applying, I didn’t really have much “business” experience. I didn’t do DECA or any business related clubs in school, and knew nothing about finance, accounting, or whatever.

I spun what I did have in a positive light to fit what the school is looking more, emphasizing on my in-class and extracurricular experience in math, leadership, and economics. I think it is important that you highlight these things in your application.

I had no business experience whatsoever, and I was accepted.

Leadership or research in economics/related field is a valid substitute for business experience.
