By simply having either a 5 in an AP course or a 7 in an IB course, anyone can qualify for advanced standing. But what about advanced standing? It's a great opportunity to either finish college earlier or even take more demanding courses. But do the Ivies, and particularly Harvard, view this as sth that shows the determination/intellectual curiosity/(add whatever u like) or is it viewed simply as great grades that one took in an exam. This is also relative to which grades they use in order to decide whether u qualify or not. But even if it's the final grades that count, the applications about advanced standing are made earlier. Would that be taken into consideration?
So, do or do they not consider this as a plus?

A very high proportion of students who apply to Harvard (and its peer institutions) are eligible for Advanced Standing via AP or IB scores. For Harvard, it is scores of 5 on 4 recognized AP tests (not all are eligible) or 3 scores of 7 on IB tests.

Such high scores are a plus but not the determining factor in admissions decisions since so many applicants are eligible. As well, these colleges look for qualities and achievements beyond the purely academic.
