So, i know that being a talented athlete is considered to be a good hook for college admission generally speaking... Does this apply also to talented musicians?

I was going to say Not in my mind but rethought my position as I typed. Music is an EC which can show dedication but doesn’t give much lift for most schools. However, if you look at true music schools which require auditions as the equivalent of Div 1 football programs then being a talented musician can get you in. You might try posting this in the Music Forum for more opinions and replies.

When you say “talented” what do you mean?

Colleges will recruit “talented” musicians. It does happen. The question is how talented does one need to be in order to be recruited. Usually, this means conservatory-level talent.

A soccer starter for her high school may be the best player but in the pool of NCAA wannabe recruits, does she make the grade? Is she good enough to be an impact player on the college team? If so, then she may be a legitimate recruited and courted player. If her skill is good but not phenomenal, you may get the coaches encouraging her to apply but not pulling any strings for her, reserving those recruitment (set-aside) slots for more-talented players.
