I'm a little confused by what people mean here when they say "college prep". At my school, the 'regular' level courses, which are the lowest besides special ed, are called College Prep, then there's Honors and AP. So wouldn't those freshmen who want to take it easy and make the adjustment be taking college prep courses if they didn't want to do honors?

none

nobody is allowed to...unless they are recommended into AP calc

i think you're pretty lucky if you can take AP's in freshman. In rare cases, those kids that did take APs as a freshman were super advanced, such as ap calc, ap world, or ap music theory.

AP World; it was the only thing we were allowed to take, other than AP Human Geography, which nobody wants to.

I took AP Calculus BC as a freshman.

hell my school didn;t allowed anyone to take APs in sophmore year either unless it was AP euro and you had to be recommended.

My schools doesn't allow freshmen to take any AP classes.

Sophomores used to be allowed to take AP Euro, but after my class they decided sophomores were too immature to handle an AP class. I had no problem with it, but whatever.

None. But I self studied AP World...

I didn't take any AP classes but I did take Honors Geometry....haha...

One thing to keep in mind taking AP's as a frosh...consider how many total AP classes your hs offers. I took no AP's frosh year, fought tooth and nail to get into 2 my soph year (usually Euro was the only offering, with a recommendation, but sweet-talked my way into Chem), and then a heap junior and senior years. Problem was, my school didn't offer anything past, say, Calc AB, which I did my junior year. So I self-studied BC the next year, but it sure would have been nice if I hadn't exhausted my class options for senior year.

Just a thought.

P.S. Why are you worrying about this as an 8th grader? Breathe. Seriously. You'll get into someplace lovely I'm sure in a few years and then wonder what all the fuss was about.

AP world history - only one allowed in 9th grade at my school. But you can always learn on your own and take the exams, which was exactly what I did with my calc bc and phys c.
I chickened out on world history in the end - it's a lot harder than math and science subjects, I think.

nobody is allowed to take APs at my HS. which is a good thing, actually. :)

I didn't take any freshman year. There were only two freshmen at my school that took APs. One took AP Chem; the other took AP Bio.

wait...no Aps in the whole HS?! hahahhaha! i feel sad for u guys actually!

We never had the option to take AP classes our freshman year. Sophomores could really only get away with AP European History and AP Statistics, both of which I did. We don't offer a lot of the "easier" AP classes, such as Environmental, Psychology, and Human Geography.

doesn't matter...one cna always self study them!

none...I did not know Collegeboard existed...lol

As a freshman, taking an AP class can actually hurt you instead of help you. As your first year of high school, you should take challenging classes that will encourage you, not intimidate you. A big part of freshman year is getting comfortable with your school and developing a love of learning. Stressing about AP tests in May is not going to help a fourteen year old learn what college is about. It may even discourage them.

^ I agree. I know a girl who took AP Human geog. freshmen year and got a C and has vowed never to take an AP class again. She obviously doesn't know how important they are.

My school doesn't allow freshman or sophomores to take any AP classes unless they are very advanced in math (so they can take AP Calc AB or BC). All other AP classes can't be taken until junior year.
