What are factors that result in colleges rejecting you?

What are reasons for why colleges reject students? I am curious about this because I currently go to a community college. I am wondering what certain factors could prevent me from getting into certain schools? For example, is it lack of extracurricular activities at a CC, low grades, having one D, etc.? I am really lost when it comes to this.

What are other reasons why colleges may reject students, with the exception of plagiarism and crimes?

At top schools you can be denied for GPA, test scores, EC’s, letters of rec, essays or anything they want to deny you for.

At lower tier schools it is pretty much GPA and test scores that will get you denied.

Beyond that tho, if the core things are in place, think of it as not being “rejected” so much as not “getting accepted”. At that point, nothing you show gets a reject automatically. It is more that they add up all your “stuff” and weigh it against others. So you may dance, but someone else plays clarinet. At one school, you each get a “point”. At another school, they may need a clarinet player, so you get one point, the clarinetist gets 5!

In the end, if your core app is good, it is just weighing intangibles against one another, which is subjective.
