When my daughter filled out her housing form, she said she would take a double or a suite... Based on the latest amount charged on her bill, it appears that she will be placed in a suite. Does anyone know anything about suites for freshman? My main concern is the location... I hope she is placed in a dorm that is mostly freshman and not upperclassmen.

Hello weluvnik,
There are different kinds of suites for 2 person, 3-, and 4-.

BBB, the three freshmen dorms, have 4-person suites that is really not that bad. Each person gets their own private room and a small living room in the middle. The only con is the location: they are the farthest dorms from the campus.

There are other dorms like Haven and Dellplain that have suites too but those suites are usually popular among the upperclassmen

Check out the floormaps on the Su Housing website too!

Which dorm, OP?

She was placed in Brewster, 4 person suite. She’s pretty happy about it, but I am a bit nervous about the location. I’ve heard Brewster is “on the edge” of a sketchy area of town. Any truth to that?

Brewster is part of BBB, the 3 freshman dorms, and it is ‘on the edge’ of the campus near the hospital, highway, etc. But students still walk to and from there at 2am and it’s fine. Just be careful not to wander or have a victim sign above your head. You see more students than non- and the only “scary” thing that has happened was a homeless person walking into the dorm once. Which was odd since noone can even enter the dorms without swiping their ID. There are sometimes emails about robberies that happen near the parking lots there but that again can be avoided by not walking alone at night.

Thanks. I will be sure to show her your suggestions for staying safe.
