What are good computer engineering schools for an "average" student?

Whenever i try to find a good engineering schools the only things that come up are like mit and stanford.... I was wondering if anyone knew of any good engineering schools for an average student primarily in the northeast area but im open to anything. I have a 3.1 unweighted gpa and 1570 SAT.

This answer is for you if you’re looking for a job when you graduate:
Anywhere, preferably ABET accredited. If you’re looking for a job, they focus mainly on if you know your stuff than the name of your school. Of course, the exception to this are big name schools in which companies go there and bribe people to work for them. In other schools, learn what you need to know and do well in interviews.

Your state universities have good engineering colleges. Look there first.

You can also apply as an alternate major: chemistry, math, computer science… to get in.

Take the Calculus sequence and Physics series for engineers, then apply to switch majors after you get good grades

I am going to CSU (“Cleveland state university”,it’s a good, accredited and it’s located in the downtown plus the big city experience >>I don’t want to make an advertisement for the Univ here though:D) next year ,class of 2014 in EE.
and there is the Case western reserve but it’s too expensive for me.
and OSU “Ohio state university” is a great choice I guess >>look at it.

I mainly want to know where i can get the best education from a school that doesnt have ridiculous requirements to get into.

Billyalexander: have you checked your Comm. College (CC)?..some if not most state Universities are pretty easy to get in. Some of my HS friends have same kind of stat like yours and they all are in college now. So, what are you afraid of?..or better yet, what do you mean by the “ridiculous requirements”? please breakdown a little bit.

I want to know if any schools have above average engineering programs. Whenever i look it up on google it just gives me schools that are out of my range. Im basically asking if there are any good/recognized engineering schools for somebody with my criteria.

Look at the US News engineering ranking where they rank all the schools. Look up requirements for schools in the region you want to go to.

Just browsing the list New Jersey Institue of Technology could be a good fit for you. The problem is you will be paying out of sate if you go outside of where you live.

Don’t rule out just attend your local community college and do well. Then after 2 years apply to where ever you want. You will save a ton of money and you wont miss much.
