Hi! I’m going to be a senior next year and I was wondering where my stats and such place me. I’m open to both universities and liberal arts colleges. Thanks!!
GPA: 3.98 unweighted
ACT: 33, 34 superscore, I should also be a national merit semifinalist
Course rigor: Hardest available, all As + 1 B, 8 AP classes so far, 5 more next year, 4s and 5s on all tests so far
Extracurricular:
Teaching 5th grade math team 3 years, 12 weeks research in BME 2015, 12 weeks research Neuro 2016, Intel ISEF Finalist 2016, Varsity Track and Cross Country (state team), Spanish Club Officer, Forensics team member, 2 week immersion thing in Spain, other little stuff like NHS but not significant
Awards: Intel Finalist, Society Women Engineers Local Award, SHS, NHS, Grand Prize regional science fair
Essays: I love them so far
Rec letters: between good and really good

I’m thinking Rice and Columbia are good reaches, but idk.
I don’t really know what I want to major in, I’m most interested in Neuroscience, Liguistics, and Philosophy
This is going to be long but i advice you read it all through
1. Stop posting your academic results online for everyone to see its not their business and you never know who is watching you have to be careful.
2.You don’t know who’s replying a lot of people (not all) on this website may not even have attended one of this prestigious universities (not an insult, a college should not define your worth) and you are really asking them. Be reasonable, ask a counselor someone who is really informed and you may trust.
3.Your extra curriculars or and grades really can’t give you an idea of where you may go to college. If you don’t know, the college process is random Harvard accepts some D student and rejects 36 point ACT students. Only the college can decide where you stand.
4. You are making some other students with lower scores feel bad. Okay congrats on your scores and all, getting those scores are surely not a breeze but please put in mind that a 2.7 gpa student who has put in a lot of work into their education might find this post as a discouragement. They may fall into the stereotype that your gpa can be calculated in a way that you know your chances of getting into a college. NO
I would advice you to delete this post. Thank you
I don’t think you need to delete the post. When one signs up for this website, he or she should expect to see chance threads like this. If you get offended looking at someone else’s scores, leave the sight. Don’t tell people (thousands of them) to delete their posts.
Although many commenters are just high school seniors like yourself, we can sympathize with you. I may not have gone through college yet, but trust me, as the son of an interviewer for Harvard, I think I’ve learned some things.
Good scores, GPA, course rigor, and scores. ECs seemed to be focused on STEM. ECs are decent, nothing too outstanding. Your awards are very good and will make your application stand out. If your essays are as good as you say they are, that will help too.
The Claremont consortium comes to mind for me. The reaches you have listed are good. Find some big and small colleges and see which colleges are a better fit. Good luck!
@ap012199 Lol he’s been bagging on other chance threads as well.
@ap012199 thanks for your response! Yeah, I wish I’d done more ECs, but I guess I just sort of did what was interesting to me, even if it’s not the best combo of activities.
@ionlyspeaktruth sorry if this offended you, I don’t have a college counselor and I don’t really know anyone else applying for out of state schools, so I just wanted to get an idea from here. I know my stats are good, but I wouldn’t say they would make anyone else feel bad about themselves, looking more around I’ve seen plenty of 36s and way better activities than mine. You are right though that you never know who sees these. Thanks for the input.
