What are International Transfers Like? and chance me maybe?

Hi Everyone! I am an international student from outside of the US, and I’ll be transferring to a large state college in the US this year as a sophomore (I think). I was rejected by Columbia SEAS for freshman admissions this fall </3 but I thought maybe I would apply for transfer after another academic year in the US. I’m not sure if my current courses CGPA can be an indication of my performance, but it might be helpful to know that most of my engineering/science courses are able to be transferred to the institutions that offered me admissions.

Here are my stats:

High school GPA: I took external exams. 1 A, others A*
College GPA: 3.97 UW , (engineering courses: 4.0)
SAT: 2010 Superscore (CR: 630, MATH: 780, WRITING: 600) (HAHAHAHHAHA, i know i suck)
SAT 2: 800s on Chem, Phy, Math 2
Toefl iBt: 115 / 120
Financial Aid: Yes

EC’s : a few science/engineering awards at state and national level, champion national for foreign language competition, interned at a engineering plant and research institute. Hoping to help my lecturer in his Ph.D research at another university this summer.

Note: my current school is very small and does not have the resources for research. That is why I had to go outside to find internships LOL. and should I explain in my app that I wasn’t able to participate in Olympiad selections? Cause my high school is a public high school in a very small town, and I wasn’t exposed that the Olympiad even existed LOL but i received some awards from government-held competitions.

Hence, if you know any international students who were able to successfully transfer into Columbia SEAS, what qualities do you see in them?

Other schools in consideration: Stanford, MIT

The only cases of international students transferring into Columbia SEAS I am aware of went through a 3+2 program; none of them received financial aid from Columbia. Alas, few universities in general are looking to admit international transfer financial aid applicants. That’s not to say that it cannot be done, but you are facing an uphill battle. I wish you all the best!
