what are likely letters

enough said. Oh and when do they send these out and do all ivy league schools send them?

Likely Letters are used by some schools to hook an appealing applicant early, before other colleges get to them. They can’t technically guarantee them admission until the Regular Decision date, but it’s pretty much an acceptance.

They go out at different times. Athletic likelies usually get sent during fall and winter, while academic likelies seem to be sent out a bit later. A good portion of the academic ones have been going out the last couple of weeks, if CC threads are any indication.

I’m not completely sure on this, but I think the majority, if not all, send them. I know that Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Penn send them. Someone else will need to verify on Brown and Cornell. But only a very small number of likely letters get sent in the first place (the majority of accepted students don’t get them), and there’s even less if we disregard the athletic ones.
