I'm applying to the College of Arts and Sciences Regular Decision, and ive been getting a lot of conflicting answers on my chances at NYU. I'd Really appreciate any prediction anyone could offer. Thanks a lot
I go to a private school with pretty tough grading, so im going to give my weighted and unweighted GPA for each year

9th- 3.6 (both unweighted and weighted)

10th- 3.6 (both unweighted and weighted)

11th- 3.3 weighted
3.1 unweighted (as you can see this was my bad year)

12th- first quarter weighted-3.8
unweighted-3.45 (all my classes are either honors or AP)

I think i can pull off a 3.9 for my second quarter

That makes for a cum. unweighted GPA of 3.43 for my first three years
" " " " " weighted GPA of 3.5 " " " " "

SAT SCORE: (this is the combined of the best) 1410 (710 math 700 verbal)
(by the way, is the combined score what truly matters?)

A soild combined SAT1 score but your junior year G.P.A. will def hurt you.
Your G.P.A. is slightly lower but not significantly.
Do you have any EC?
so far, absolutely no EC

thanks jwblue, appreciate it...still nervous but, motivated to bring up GPA this year

RoKlein, thanks for defending me, I think my EC's should help, my main ones are 3 varsity letters for Cross country, class Vice Pres., Pres. of Key club, Newspaper Editor, and I did extensive medical volunteer work in India. My essays focus a lot on India. Im biracial, but I was born and raised in PA.
Does that Change my less than 50 chance?
thanks

Applying Regular Decision is going to really hurt. If NYU is your number one choice you probably should have done early decision. Your senior year grades will have no bearing in your admission unless you bomb all of your classes which I am sure that you won't. That said when applying RD admission officers show no mercy. They pick the best and the top and being below average in SAT and GPA is not a good thing when your in a RD applicant pool. You NEED TO WRITE A PERFECT ESSAY. Your EC's are good but everyones are. I would say that if you applied early decision your chances would have been around 60% but regular decision probably around 30%
Good luck

His SAT score is not above the average CAS SAT score. Individual school information is not posted online but is given to you during orientation. CAS is behind STERN in terms of difficulty in admissions and a 1350 is low for CAS

hey...
my sat is 1410 combined, so is THAT below average for CAS.
also, my gpa was low junior year, so im writing a little note with an explanation (as advised by jwblue) and my senior grades are a lot higher. And ive heard that most ppl take easy classes senior year, which i didnt. Every class is AP or honors except spanish. So does my senior year really have no bearing?

1410 is not bad, people who said it's below average...well what can i tell you? then what about my score eh?! :) 1300 I should kill myself then. :)

1410 is a solid score. Junior year is the most important year for a high school student as it tends to be the most difficult. While taking hard classes during senior year is good the grades will only deny you admission not get you in. If your essay is good you have shot but your gpa is going to hurt you. How are your EC's?

my EC's are really good. I have plenty of things with a large range...but then again most ppl do. Im hoping my letters of rec and essay will help compensate for my low GPA junior year.
