I am a junior at a large midwest public high school. I have a 5.0 weighted GPA and 3.7 unweighted. I've taken the
ACT once and gotten a 35, and two SAT II subject tests at 800 and 780. I compete in varsity tennis, x-country and track at my school. I'm also an eagle scout, I would really like to go to University of Pennsylvania. I visited it and loved it. But it seems my credentials are run-of-the-mill for that university. What are my chances? What could I do to improve them?

Your academics are pretty damn solid, an ACT of 35 is superb. The other “X” factor is your race/ethnicity, if you African American your chances are close to 100% with that score, if Asian you’ll be on the other end of the scale.

yah you should be fine for AT LEAST cornell. youd probably get in 1-3 depending on ECs and essays

Sure a 35 ACT is good, but are those your only activities? Eagle scout is cool, but not nearly as esteemed as it used to be. a 3.7 GPA is quite low (is it weighted or unweighted)?

I’m going to be a freshman at UPenn in the fall (just committed!). I would be more than glad to help you improve what you’ve already got going. PM me if you’d like some advice.

If you’re an URM then you have a good chance at Cornell and Penn. If you’re asian, good luck.

Your uwGPA is a little bit low for top school. Try to improve that. Your ACT score is great. Nevertheless, top schools look beyond GPA and test scores.

try cornell, brown, upen, dartmouth
still try for yale, harvard, and princeton, you’ll regret not applying
