What are my chances at good STEM colleges as an international student?

Currently in 11th, yet to give SAT, but expecting 1450+/1600 on the new SAT, as SAT math is extremely easy compared to my country’s syllabus, and my English is pretty good. I intend to major in Computer Science.

Decent grades for the Indian system (~90%) for now. Aiming for better in 12th grade. I was in the top 4% of all students in my state in the 10th grade board exams.

Extracurriculars:
I have an internationally recognized chess rating, school chess champion and have won many recognized chess competitions other than school ones.
Have built 5–6 web applications which will be displayed on a portfolio website I am building. I have implemented an Artificial Intelligence that never loses at Tic Tac Toe. Won all the computer science competitions in my school.
Won a speedcubing competition in my city, was ranked top 100 in India at the time.
Was a writer for the school magazine in grade 9 and 10 (It was discontinued later)
Can get letters of recommendation from my class teachers as I have a pretty good relationship with them (mostly due to winning competitions)

What universities should I apply for with this kind of application? MIT/CalTech/Stanford seem way out of my league (I don’t have an Olympiad medal). I’m looking at very good state universities and Ivies (UT Austin, Cornell, Berkeley, GA Tech) or other good ones like Drexel, UMich, UWashington, UWisconsin. Looking to Canadian universities as well. Should I even bother to apply to these universities? I don’t think my application is up to the mark.

Thanks for recommendations. Financial Aid and need blind colleges are preferable since currency conversion makes me pretty poor. (Income becomes around $15K per year)

without sat its hard to tell. If you get 1450, you will have a low shot at berkeley, gatech, cornell, ut austin, and probably umich also. So many international applicants with same major

And what would I need to aim at those colleges? Around 1550?

If you need financial aid, drop UCB from your list. UC’s offer no FA for International students so to pay full fees at $60K/year.

Just curious, what is your FIDE rating? If it’s like 1900 it probably won’t make much of a difference in your applications. However if it’s like 2300+ it could make a big difference.

Not 2300+ :frowning:

Drexel is nowhere near the level of the other colleges.
Because you’re veryliw income, you should focus on programs like McDermott and Robertson.
