Have taken an interview with a MIT alum and it was quite good. Nice recommendations.

I am applying to Upenn, harvard,MIT,stanford, cornell, univ of virginia, univ of michigan,NYU,GWU,and ASU. Wanna major in business/economics.Except Upenn, I am applying for financial aid to the univs that offer it.

What are my chances???

you need a handful more safeties...

high reaches: UPenn, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cornell, UVa
match: UMich, NYU

it's especially hard for an international applicant to get any considerable amount of financial aid if their application isn't outstanding (compared to other internationals).

however china students get a bigger quota than the rest of asia, so that helps you.

what was your essay like?

Chances are really small at the top schools. You are compeating with so many who have top grades and ECs coming out of Asia. Choose some schools that don't get a lot of Asian applicants. Schools in the mid west and south primarily.

your chances are cornell, MIT, harvard, upenn, and stanford are extremely low given that you are international and you have somewhat low SAT's, but good luck

I dont think I can make any changes now since the deadline of most of the schools is in Jan. What about my chances at NYU,Umich, george washington univ and UVA?

i would rather think that UVA is easier to get into then u mich... even though u mich has high acceptance rate, it is very competitive and emphasizes on grades instead of the SATs.

i dont know about george washington and NYU since i am not applying there. GL anyway

NYU is easier to get into than UMich too

NYU is harder than UMich

NYU is easier to get into than UMich which is easier to get into than UVA.

good luck. there are international students with much much better stats. you wont get into ivies or any of the top tier public schools

obviously the above poster has no idea what he/she is saying. No one can accurately predict yuor chances. Assuming that your TOEFL is high, I think you'll be fine. HYPSM are reaches for everyone, so if I were you, I'd apply to some safeties.

I think arizona state univ can be a safety. I have a friend who has much lower grades and he got into MIT. He doesn't have very outstanding ECs either. So I thought I'd just give it a try.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on good matches?
