Umm, so if I don't even come close, don't slaughter me haha.

Terrible GPA and test scores (good luck raising your SAT reasoning 300 points) and sub-par extracurriculars unfortunately reduce your chances of admission to NYU and Cornell to about 0.

Go find a state school.

Your GPA is low, but your classes are hard, but I would definately want those sats to go up to have a good chance.

I would say that cornell is close to impossible with your gpa, unfortunately, unless you have some crazy EC or legacy that you neglected to tell us about.
ECs are nothing special, but not too bad, but do try to get a little more leadership roles, or something that makes you stand out. You’ll need good recs and good essay.

NYU is a high match for you, but you have a good chance at it, especially if you get the GPA up a little, finish high in your class, and get SAT up.

You’ve picked some challenging schools, though NYU is entirely possible. Don’t get down on yourself though, ivys arn’t the only schools in the world.
Any other schools that you are considering?
If you can can you chance back?

I was gonna default to Rutgers like most of the other asian kids from my school.

I was gonna go for BU, UPenn (Have relations with the old Head of UPenn, and prestigious alumni), and some other fall back schools.

Chance?

Rutgers should be safety- if your instate
BU should be a match/low match- its not terribly hard especially if you bring up GPA a bit, and score that 2200+
Upenn will be tough even with you connections. Considering your incredible connections I would put it as a reach/ ow reach, because athough you have connections, your GPA isn’t up to UPenn standards. Its absolutely not a sure thing, but those connections will help

Yeah Rutgers is in-state.

Anywho, my GPA will be kind of hard to bring up, but i will do my best there.

My SAT grades were pitiful, but that was only used as a marker to see where i was at that time.

Eh, I was hoping ivy, but my parents don’t want me to transfer, so i will probably be sticking to a normal private school all the way through.

Suggestions?

It’s really just ignorant to assume that “connections” are going to get you into one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

Honestly, with your stats at that level, Rutgers is more or less your only option. It is simply impossible for someone like you to get into an Ivy league school.

When did i assume that it was going to get me in? Stop ■■■■■■■■ my thread if you aren’t going to help.

Clarification: Low-match = good chance of getting in? or no?

At billaboong- I wouldn’t say rutgers i only option
He has a good shot at BU, and NYU isn’t impossible either
I do think you should try looking at a few more colleges like BU though Bagels, because right now your limiting yourself a little

There is no point in rationalizing over something that simply won’t happen. If the only words you want to hear are that say you have a chance at those schools, then there is no point in you making this thread at all.

The fact that you don’t like what I’ve said doesn’t make it any less true.

low match= not as guarenteed as a safety school, but very good chance, only strike against you is gpa, but if everything else measure up, plus you get gpa up to like 3.3-3.4 or so then you should have a great chance

If you are so ignorant that you don’t realize that i really don’t care what you say, then you would leave your pointless flaming for another time. I made this thread so i can get a good idea of where i stand, not to listen to your crap.

I’m still in the process of visiting colleges. I just got back from upstate NY, and i visited Cornell, Ithaca, and Syracuse while i was there.

I’m also thinking of Northwestern, Rochester, WashU, and UMich(Shooting too high?).

You would have great shots at syracuse and ithica. Cuse=safety
Ithica=safety
Rochester=match/high match-i would look at it
WashU=as hard as cornell
NU- reach-would be difficult
UMich-high reach-its very nuumbers based, and I don’t think you have the gpa

I’m sorry, NU?

EDIT: Baylor?

NU=northwestern University
baylor= lowmatch/ safety

you should try the acts! i had a lot of trouble raising my grade with the SATs and i think the ACTs are definitely better!

I was considering taking the ACT’s but i’m afraid that im taking SAT II’s in May, and then SAT again in June. What other time do i have?

I hate to break it to you (as i think many people have done) but it’s very difficult to get into NYU with a GPA below 3.5 and even worse for Cornell. My friend had an UW 3.2 and wrote a stellar essay about how he survived cancer, got 25K from BU and rejected from NYU.

BU would be a good school to look at though, and if you want NY, Fordham is a great University, has great aid, and isn’t as competitive.

I’m taking the ACTs in April, I’m not really sure about other test dates :frowning: sorry but i’m sure if you go on their website you can find out. you might be able to take them in september of next year and you’ll still be able to use the scores. Some other ideas would be to take an ACT practice test, make sure it is one actually released by the ACT, and see how you do. If you do well you will probably be able to make some time.

Ok ill go do that thanks
