What are my chances at these schools, and give me suggestions for applications.

Hello,
For anyone who knows about UDel admissions, I would love to share my stats. I visited a few weeks ago and there is nothing I want more than to go there. I am currently a high school Sophomore, so I understand I have another year to get my grades up. Anyways, here are my stats. Unfortunately, my GPA is quite low because I struggled very much Freshman year.

Schools
University of Delaware (my top choice, I love it there)
Xavier University
George Mason University
Monmouth University
High Point University

GPA (weighted): 3.673 (I increased it from 3.4 to 3.6 since Freshman year)
Location: Out of State (Massachusetts)
PSAT scores: 1130, 570 RW, 560 Math
Desired major: Political Science/Public Policy

While I am doing ok in my Latin class, I have made the choice to drop it, as I would like to major in Political Science, and I saw other electives to be more fitting for my desired major. I know UDel recommends 4 years while requiring 2, so I am concerned dropping may come back to hurt me unfortunately.

Class Choices Grade 9:

Algebra Geometry (A level): Semester one: 72, Semester two: 74 (my math teacher in 9th grade did not interact with the students, to this made it very hard to ask questions or make connections. Also, much of our learning is based on an iPad, so it is very easy to get distracted with the screen-based learning.
English 9 (A level): Semester one: 94, Semester two: 91
Intro Physics (A level): Semester one: 81, Semester two: 88 (first semester was tough because a teacher left the school mid-year and the department was scrambling to find a new teacher)
Latin II (A level, although honors and A level were combined in the same class): Semester one: 84, Semester two: 86 (while I am aware my Latin grades are not awful in grade 9, I loved the teacher. Unfortunately, I did not get the same teacher in 10th grade, and this has made me slightly less motivated. Plus, I have always struggled in Latin, and have been counting the days until I can drop it.)
World Civilizations (A level was all that was offered): Semester one: 85, Semester two: 90

Class Choices Grade 10 (I am mid year through 10th grade as I am writing this)

Advanced Math I (A level): Semester one: 85
Biology (A level): Semester one: 88
English 10 (Honors): Semester one: 84 (the teacher I have this year grades tough, and while I do not blame him for my poor grade, I do believe the class is more difficult than it should be.)
Latin III (A level, but once again, the classes are combined): Semester one: 79
US History I (Honors): Semester one: 88

Course Selection for Grade 11

Precalculus (A level)
English 11 (Honors)
Chemistry (A level)
US History (Advanced Placement)
Global Studies (Honors)
America and the World Today (Honors)

Extracurriculars

Orchestra: I am in the honors orchestra at my school, and I have been a part of it since 5th grade.

Model United Nations: I attended the UDel conference this year, and amm very active within my school’s group. I should be President next year, and I know that UDel has a fantastic MUN team.

Political Action Group: A group in my school which debates issues and current events.

Chess Club: I am a regular memebr and am running for president in a year or two.

Golf Team: I have been on the team every year so far and will continue to be on the team

Ski Team: I will be starting Junior year

I also regularly volunteer at a youth basketball league for 4 hours every Saturday.

Bump

It is very hard to say since it is still early. Your Junior year of high school will matter quite a bit for university admissions. However, I wouldn’t worry too much about your freshman year of high school. Your sophomore and junior years will matter quite a bit more.

Also, your PSAT score is above average. You will want to do some preparation before taking the SAT and see how much you can improve this.

If you see how you do in your Junior year and see how you do on your SAT and people will be able to give you a much better idea of your chances. You also should find out what your budget is for university. You have a few very good options in-state which are relatively affordable for students from Massachusetts.

If you can afford it, and if you continue to improve your GPA, then I do think that you chances at U.Delaware look pretty good.

Thank you so much. I wrote this last school year. These are my updated statistics.

Schools
University of Delaware
Valparaiso University
Loyola University Chicago

GPA (weighted): 3.628 (out of 5)
(Unweighted: 3.15)
PSAT scores: 1130, 570 RW, 560 Math
Location: Massachusetts

Desired major: Global Studies and International Business

Extracurriculars

AP Classes: AP United States History

Orchestra: I am in the honors orchestra at my school, and I have been a part of it since 5th grade.

Tri-M (Music National Honor Society): Started this year, provides numerous volunteer opportunities.

Model United Nations: (Vice President)- I have increased the club’s enrollment by 200% and have been in charge of registering the team for conferences.

Golf Team: I have been on the team every year so far and will continue to be on the team

…and b/c it has to be top of the list of criteria: can you afford all of these schools?

Valparaiso is quite affordable due to my family’s legacy there (19 people in my family have attended)
Delaware offers need-based aid, but it of course, would be a little more expensive
Loyola is a very expensive school, but I would qualify for their financial assistance

Keep in mind, there are a number of scholarships and awards that go unclaimed every year. By trying to apply for some of these, it would be easy to lessen the costs.

Also, I just ran the numbers, those schools would be somewhat affordable.
