Hi, I'm going to be a junior at Lahser high school in Bloomfield, MI. I currently have a 4.0 GPA with a couple honors but no AP's yet, since the only Ap we could take was US History, and I didn't want to take that. Next year I'm taking AP Chemistry. I play varsity tennis and run varsity track with a school record. I take Latin and was in Latin Club and Key Club. I have pprobably around 100 hours of community service and I have some awards and things from school which I'm not going to take the time to list, unless someone wants to see them. I work part time at a department store and also at a Pool in the summer. I've just finished taking an SAT prep class, but have only managed to get about a 1900/2400. I also took the plan and got a 25/32. How do my chances look at getting into U of M-Ann Arbor? If anyone needs to see anymore stats or questions let me know. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated Thanks

Is your GPA UW? If not, what is your UMich GPA?

If your UMich GPA is 4.0, then you are most likely in. I would retake the SAT and try to score 2000+ and then definitely you're in. Apply as early as possible also (i.e. right now!).

My GPA is unweighted. What is the U of M gpa? I'm only going to be a junior, though. After reading all of these "what are my chances" threads, I wanted to see what mine were, even though I'm not a senior yet. Thanks for responding

UM GPA:

A's = 4
B's = 3
C's = 2

Tennisgal, a 4.0 GPA will get you far. Not having taken any APs as a Sophomore will not hurt you. Taking AP Chemistry as a Junior will look good. It is clear that you prefer the SAT to the ACT. Work hard on the SAT and try to break the 2000 mark. You are still a whole year away from applying, so I am sure you will be able to do significantly better than a 1900 on the SAT. If you can improve it to 2000+, I'd say Michigan is a safe match for you.

Thanks everyone for your imput. However, I have another question regarding my Junior year.

This is my current schedule:

AP Chemistry
Anatomy & Physiology
American Literature
Pre-Calc
American Government (1st Semester) / Intro to Economics (2nd Semester)
Latin 300
Team Sports (1st Semester) / Web Design (2nd Semester)

I'm only taking 1 AP class. If a college like U of M is my goal, should I be taking more AP classes/Honors? However, I am taking an extra academic, and I don't want to overload myself, considering I do a lot of sports and Junior year is a big year, standardized test-taking wise. Or would it look better to get rid of the extra academic (anatomy & physiology) and replace it with British Literature, which is honors. I eventually hope to become something in the medical field though, so maybe Anatomy is better? Aghhh, I don't know. someone help me!

DONT POST CHANCES THREATS IF YOU ARENT AN INCOMING SENIOR , fOR ALL WE KNOW YOU COULD CRASH AND BURN JUNIOR YEAR AND YOUR CHANCES WOULD GO DOWN UNDER , SO STOP WASTING PEOPLE"S TIME AND FOCUS ON 11th grade

Darkneal, it is too late to really start planning for college during one's senior year.

Tennisgal, one AP is not too little considering that you are taking a solid courseload. Besides, you can take AP Calc AB and AB Biologoy or AP Econ or AP English next year. However, if you feel up to it, and if it isn't too late, take one of those AP classes this year. It may drop your GPA from 4.0 to 3.8, but it looks good.

Thanks Alexandre, I think you are right. Yes, I am planning on taking at least 2 APs during my senior year. Now I feel reassured.
