For UC’s, I’m planning on applying to UCSB, UCI, and UCSC.
For CSU’s, I’m planning on applying to CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, CSU San Marcos, and SDSU.
I haven’t checked to see if any schools are like UCSB, where I would be majoring in Economics and Accounting, but what I’m seeing from the ones I have searched is that I’d major in Business Administration with a concentration on Accounting.
UC/CSU GPA is 3.79
SAT is 1310 with 7’s in each of the writing categories (I’m not sure how credible they’re deeming the writing portion/how much they care about it but I thought I’d mention it anyways.)
Volunteering/Extracurriculars:
Have done a few leadership camps with a club at school.
Varsity Tennis for four years
Volunteering at a hospital
I’ve done some other medical related volunteering and volunteered a couple marathons.
For the CSU’s, they use an eligibility index to rank applicants by major.
(CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + CR) and your EI calculates out to a 4342. This EI should get you into all the CSU’s and San Marcos should be a safety.
@Gumbymom How much could essays influence my admission to the UC’s? UCI is my top school and I was just wondering if essays could be the difference between acceptance and rejection in my case.
Essays are taken into consideration by all the schools, how much depends upon the admission officers and what you have to say in them. This is the subjective or “holistic” part of the admissions decisions and it is not quantifiable. All you can do is apply and hope for the best.
UCI happens to prefer high GPA’s over high test scores and I know their Business Admin is highly competitive, average UC GPA of 4.12 and a 18.6% selectivity rate so it will be a tough admit.
You aren’t so out of range that UCI is a lost cause but, your admission is pretty unlikely. UCR and UCSC are more likely but, also uncertain. SDSU, Fullerton and CSULB are all but certain to admit you.
