I am very new to this forum so bear with me. I applied to UNC early and have the following stats:
from Dallas area top parochial school:

Class Rank: top 5%, GPA:4.0, many, many AP classes
National Merit Commended
SAT: 2100 (M 700, W710 and CR691), ACT: 31
very strong extracurricular: National Honor Society, Regional Winner in Science Fair, Regional and State Awards in Prose Interpretation, Varsity Cheerleader with many awards, Lead Actress in School Play,Elected Officer in Student Symposium, Furman Scholar, Elected to Homecoming Court and much more.

I know UNC is very hard to get into out of state. I feel my teacher recs were very strong. Any ideas of my chances? I am pre-med with minor in drama.
Thanks!

its hard to say what your chances at UNC would be. UNC OOS is super competitive, and everyone who applies is very qualified. I don't know if they get a lot of applications from dallas, but your chances are not anything to write home about. UNC accepts less than 20% of its OOS applicants - so while your stats are probably about as good as they get, you're competing against thousands of other people with similar stats. Its like flipping a weighted coin.

oops sorry. I meant 690. again, I am new here. Anyone else have any advice on UNC or know when I will hear one way or the other? This was the one difficult school I applied to and I am really nervous. Thanks!

You would be a very strong match except for being out-of-state. The 50% ranges at Chapel Hill are Verbal 580-680 and Math 600-690. Combined with your very gpa/rank, curriculum, strong EC's, awards, and recs; I would really be surprised if you were not accepted if you were in-state. The question is how is OOS going to play out. I would expect, but can't prove, that the OOS applicant pool is strongly than the in-state applicant pool. Altogether, UNC-Chapel Hill accepts 35% of the applicants. In the worse case, Chapel Hill would be no worse than a moderate reach.
