Chances for an OOS???!!

I would love to go to UNC. Could you please chance me?

White Male from Virginia

Political Science B.A.

Applying EA

GPA
3.94/4.0 U.W
4.66 W

Rank
2/217

ACT
29 (Definitely retaking, this will hurt my chances)

Enrolled in a Gifted Program, along with taking all APs and Honor classes.

During 10th grade year, there was a problem with our gifted teacher and she deliberately gave everyone in the class a b. This dropped me out of first in the ranking. The board of supervisors and school board are deliberating on whether everyone should be awarded and A or a B, so my GPA/Rank may fluctuate

I was wondering what my chances are of being admitted. Thank you for your replies.

Besides your ACT, everything else looks really good. Wow....that teacher gave everybody B's? That's really unfair. But I doubt being 2nd in the class instead of 1st is gonna hurt your chance. Doing EA is a smart move if you really want to go. UNC is difficult to get in for OOS students so be prepared for surprises. But overall, I think you have a pretty good chance. Good luck!!

Yeah, and another bad even took place. I sent my SAT II scores to UNC for placement, but I completely forgot they send your SAT I scores as well, and my SAT I scores were not great at all (In the 1800s). I'm afraid they will look at these scores, due to the fact a majority of the applicants submit SAT scores. :-(

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think they look at your best score. So if your ACT score is better, then they'll use that one. From what I heard, UNC puts a bit more weight on SAT II scores compare to other schools. So it's good to send them if you have decent scores. Don't worry too much about your SAT I scores.
